just a quick question, nothing to bore you with.
is there any great need for winch buddies or wheel chocks or are they just another piece of kit that is added to the trucks kit for those just incase moments?

Laughing
would two be best or just one? surely to chock both wheels would be ideal.

yes they will help if you are pulling out broken landrovers that are stuck in the mud other wise it will just pull you into them, but a secound truck will be better to use as a anchor

i have started making my own but wasnt to sure if i really needed them thats why i thought id ask.
the normal ones are way too small for my liking, so mine is slightly bigger, standing at 10" tall when open, 9" wide and 10" long when on the deck with heavy duty grip on the front.
just roughly bolted together until i can get welded (dont laugh)

i was going to say they need to be big and be able to dig in,i take it the wheel will go aginst the open bit so it wont ride up over it

yep, spot on mate. top square gets the main force from tyre and digs in while the bottom is more of a stabiliser. it is slightly narrower than full width of tyre.

what metal have u used,it looks like 30x30x3mm angle
you might need another brace on the other side.
if you have enough metal try driving over one to see what they are like to see if they are going to bend or brake

A couple of times the weight of my range rover hasn't been enough on its own and another vehicle wouldn't help or been possible, but having got a ground anchor it was easy enough to rig that onto the back of the truck. Some sort of chock would have been quicker and easier, but not essential.

Don't forget to show us the results when you do try them out. I remember taking a few failed attempts at getting an acceptable ground anchor.
