I've separated my 3 speed auto box from the V8 and putting it back together the engine turns over then locks up.

What have I done wrong? Is there anything that needs lining up or a special tool? They went back together OK but turning the engine it goes about half a turn, there's a click form the box and then it jams.

Have I knacked it??

Steve

You've possibly damaged the oil pump on the auto box. You don't need an alignment tool but you do need to make absolutely sure the oil pump is engaged properly.

When you offered the gearbox up to the engine you should have got it all the way home (no gap between bell housing and engine) before putting any bolts in. The normal way of breaking them is to use the bell housing bolts to pull the box in that last 20mm.

Thanks for that Dennis, yes all is well with the box.

I pulled them apart last night and found the engine is the problem.

Turning the crank pulley there is no movement in the rockers and I conclude the cam is not turning, stripped drive gears?

Pulling the cam covers off has revealed and nasty mess. I reckon I've bought a duffer, previous owner reckoned it ran, I don't think it has ran for many years!

T16 turbo power now I think!
