Hello all! I'm new to the forum and wanted to get some opinions on the value of this Unimog:
It's a 1966 Unimog 404.114, Ex-German Army radio box.
- Mercedes M180 engine; 2.2 litre, 6 cylinder petrol
- Left hand drive, registered under standard license.
- Roof tent - AutoCamp Safari 1.3 (1.3m x 2.2m)
- 2 x 60L tanks (standard) and 5 x 20L jerry cans (under the vehicle)
- Dual burner / grill stove on butane
- 40L Engel fridge
- 750W alternator to charge main (24V) and auxiliary (charged at 24V, discharged at 12V) batteries as well as 2-65W solar panels (12V), and a small 950W generator
- 24V; 12,000 lb (5443kg) Champion Winch
- Electronic ignition system fitted
- Custom made roof rack
- Two spare wheels
- Immobiliser
- 35,000 miles on the clock
- 12 months MOT
- Tax exempt as a historic vehicle
As you can see, it's one of a kind and very well looked after. Was just wondering about the price. Saw something similar on www.xor.org.uk for £8000.
Thanks!

I'll give £50 for it, but only if the petrol tank is full
It's what people will pay.

No fridge, central heating, water heater, bog/shower or inverters. So the premium for camper money is out, which will make it a 1966 petrol unimog with a box body.
Then the price is for a really old 4x4 truck, so value is down to mechanical condition .
It's like my BT camper van. I've spent a lot on it, but its worth as much as a BT telecom box van. Maybe these folks don't want to see the truth?
Not sure what you do with a five ton petrol camper van. Could anyone afford to drive it to a place where you need that sort of offroad capability
Sorry I cannot be more help, but you got to be looking right inside the vehicles oily bits to make an extimate on anything that old. Pay as much as you can afford to loose

I got invited to a party last weekend which involved drinking alcohol and staying overnight...........
So I carried out a full camper conversion on saturday.....
It took 3 x 12ft hazel rods for the hoops and 2 x 7ft ones for the runners, 20 lengths of bailer cord and a tarp - I can report that it was very comfortable and I slept soundly - Im sure the drink did not affect me!

If it was a fully prepped expedition vehicle then about what the asking price on ebay is.
As it is, that's a radio body 404 with a hard top fitted with a pile of camping gear thrown in the back.
It's pretty high millage too 19K on my '59
You wouldn't want to expidition in a 404 either IMO. Everything in the back needs to be very sercure else it'll get thrown around and smashed, the fuel costs are very high, 50mph will be flat out really (unless down hill) due to the weight of the radio body. You'll get treated like a new age traveller at any campsite you stop at.
If your looking to buy, a SWB coach with some of the windows removed and the rest tinted is a far more comfortable (air con?) option with better mgp, more comfortable, and far more space / headroom, and you'll be able to get something together which looks quite smart. Don't underestamate the ability for a coach to go off tarmac too - especially if they are on twin rear wheels, hell of a lot of ground clearance on them too (I've worked as a PSV mechanic and lived on a bus or three in my life).
If your looking to sell, take 2/3 of the price your asking and have it run as an auction. With some of the hot weather which has just gone through you'll get a few bids on. Oh I just sold a 64 dieselised 404 on ebay for £2K BIN, that was with a tipper and a hard top. Radio bodys are cheap to get hold of if you want to add one.

Why thank you Robotman, I think lots of other drivers loved it too as I was driving up the A46 - a lot of them raised a single middle finger as they overtook.........I think that must mean they think its first class?
I also found a great advantage of the camper in a tipper body......because the tarp isnt tailor made and admitted a small amount of moisture - if you slightly tip the body - it all runs out the back - simples!
