Right! The thing is, my mate is running a 1600 vitara with 2"body and 2" suspension lift!
He is shod with my old 31's at the moment and says he has no probs with them.
There is enough room to put on a set of my 33's Wrangler m/t's, but he is wondering if the vitara will be able to do it!
Has anyone done this, and if so what if any, problams have you encountered?
Is there anything that you think he should look out for?
Ken

yes in theory they will fit and work but you will be putting the transmission under a lot of strain and your gear ratios will be rubbish also you will loss a lot of acceleration i no two who have done and they both went back to 31s

31s max i think , you cant lower the diffs (theres no 5.8s around anymore) so the gearing will be too high (as said above) , apart from that i recon they will rub, i have 3" Calmini and 3" bodylift (and front arches folded back) i recon i would get them on mine but still dont want to chance it.

the other option is to fit an sj transfer case, to lower your gears.

but....................if you stick to 31"s like Richie suggested, then the gearing is a lot less affected.

ive got 31"s on mine and use it for a 40 mile trip to work and back every day, and it drives fine, pulling 60mph+.

theres a company selling a complete kit, to fit an sj transfer case.

I beileive that they are the same gears made by the same company that Calmini were buying them off - Rhinoman seems to know about them.

I don't know of anyone that has purchased from them either.

Requires chassis mods though, which *should* mean an IVA.

That Calmini 'alike' company have been round a while but i find it a bit odd that ive never seen or heard of anyone buying anything from them, in which case it would be a brave soul who sticks a big cheque in the post. (I do have to qualify that by saying ive never heard anything bad about them either) but ask Dave (B4V) reputation counts for a hell of a lot. So thats what i meant when i said there arent any 5.8 about anymore (should have said readily acessable)

I bought one vitara kit from them about 5 years ago... and what I'd say from my not so good experience is, Seriously, spend a bit extra and get a GENUINE Calmini kit... I'm not going to publicly go through the in's and out's of why... Just a bit of friendly advice...

I also know of another very well known UK based company which would advise exactly the same...

And no I do not sell Calmini products, I'm just saying that if you want a 3" kit, buy a genuine one...

Specialist Leisure will supply all the Calmini products you require.

Specialist Leisure are no more, well not as the original name... apparently Patrick has emigrated to New Zealand...

Now known as "Specialist 4x4 Supplies", but it's business as usual apparently...

I was talking about the Calmini 3" sus kit... http://www.puresuzuki.com/3_lift_kit.htm which I am pretty sure they do still make...

However they stopped selling gears a long time ago... If I wanted lower R&P's for my vit, I would go to someone like... http://www.ringpinion.com

I'm pretty sure that if they can't get them for you, they'd be able to point you in the right direction...

i use to run 33x9.50x15 on my vitara with std running gear. it was ok but forget 5th gear, i never used it. and if i did i would have to change down to 4th if i came to any slight incline on the road. Would i fit them again then No, i would go down to 32"( which i did) not so bad on the gearing and i could 5th gear once again.

A other option is to fit a Sj413 T case setup onto the vitara( which i also did) i was running 34" at the time and the gearing was LOW. 65 mph at about 4500 rpm,

Just remember though its not always the size of the tyres but more the skill of the driver

As far as I know the only options for R&Ps are the 5:83s from Turkey or the 5:63s or 5:38s that were fitted to some US models.
I did have some communications with 4x4Art a few years back but at the time they would only take international orders using Western Union money transfer. if they take credit cards now then you're covered by the credit card company if there is a problem. Reviews of their stuff have been mixed and they mainly sell to local countries so not many people are on the English speaking Fora.

Yep, i used to run 33's on mine;

But as said, forget 5th.

I was doing a twin transfer and toy axle conversion on mine when i started to get abit carried away, which is why my vitara is currently looking nothing like a suzuki, hopefully wirth it when its done though!

Rich

I ran mine on 33s - but I had 5.83 R&Ps. I wish that I had stuck with my 31s tho as I was always changing wheel bearings....
