I have some progress for you guys.

The front suspension is all welded up and looking good so its time to move on to the rear. As i have writen the spec earlier in the thread ill let the pictures do the talking.

Hear is the a frame not finished just tacked together for now.

Here is the x-eng joint in the start of the bracet it will be in. More strength and bracing to come on this though.

Here is the view from the rear a frame only sitting on the inner side of the brackets here.

This is the inner plate thats been bent and tweaked to meet the angle. Plus some nice holes in there.

And now welded in.

The outer side of the bracket folded and scalloped out to hug the tube.

Once the rear was mocked up it was time to remove all the suspension from the chassis and fully weld them all up.
Once it was all fitted back together it was then time to flex it up to check everything out.
Now we were pleasently surprized with the out come. In this picture the front is flexing a little further than
it will with the shocks on but the rear is not even doing half. the table it bolted to the chassis so thats why thats gone with it.
It measured 62" under the front wheel.

got the rear a-frame mount all finished off and the a frame strengthened up.
Here is the view from the rear with the x-eng joint sandwiching the piece of plate. We have gone for thicker than the landrover mount they are designed for. The will be putting a spacer behind the cup to make the difference up.

A picture from the side to show you a 3d look

A nice little brace in the a-frame

That setup does look ace. Did you consider using a 'grader ball' for the 'A' frame?

dan a grader ball is a yanky term for a captive tow ball and hitch
they work well but are noisy and the metal-metal is no match for the blingy x-joint and probs cost more than your joint too

I think you will find that a grader ball is exactly that, there from a blade on a road grader!!
your second points are more or less correct for a vehicle of this size.

Tow ball? Now there's an idea.......not!!! Very Happy
Yup, I'm a bit slow with the response. I got the term 'grader ball' from Pirate 4x4 where I thought it was a great idea. I used to be a plant fitter in a former life and looked at a couple a while ago on a little 12G grader and they didn't look that out of place. They have shims in them to tighten them up. I think they call them ball studs if you want to price them. I doubt they'd be that expensive but who konws. I'd never heard of the Xeng joint until now.
That said, I think the X eng joint you have there is better in every way than anything off a piece of plant. I was just curious if you'd found it after a long search of other possibilities?

sorry for the hijack dan
i was just going off what was said on the buildup(mog based buggy)
but try typing in 2 5/16 trailer coupler or bulldog hitch
heres a pic

in the states they dont just have the uk standard 2" 50mm towball they have larger ones that are rated for 7000kgs/12000kgs compared to the 2000kgs unrated for ours(and before you say the dixson bate are 3500kgs rated thats why they have to be fitted to comercials

Danny - Just found some info about these engines that could help you ?

The sump on these ls400's are at the front but there's another sump from a LC100 V8 that bolts on and makes it a rear sump so should be better with a solid axle buggy ?

your build is looking good mate

Right guys sorry its been a while but between trialing, kirton doos, holidays and so on its been slower progress than before. Finally got some pics though.

So first off here is some of the new sump to combat the clearance issues with the top arms on the 4 link.

As you can see the bulk of the pan has been shifted to the rear to keep with the shape of the sump like regular 4x4 sumps. Te sump that the engine had in the car was in the way of everything.

Next on the agenda was to get the side rails in now these are more than just side steps. The are adding strength to the chassis legs front and rear and also they are the base line for the cab. The rigidity (spelling) is really amplified here to tieing the chassis in different plains. As you can see i think i should have plenty of clearence too Twisted Evil around 36". The inner tube will be roughly where the door sits when shut and the outer is to provide a nice slide past for the bodywork. Please dont worry about the mock seat position the final fixings will be slightly better Embarassed .

this picture gives you some indication of the clearence, bear in mind they are 38" tires.

This is just another view

Here you can see how they are tied in to both parts of the chassis

Nice work on the sump. Cool I assume it's all in mild steel so it can take a slap or two without cracking?

At least you are making progress. Thats more than I have on any of my vehicles. I've just been far to busy with work.

next up the rear hoop has been bent up and fitted with the cross for some added strength. the tallest part on this car meassures in at a smidges under 80" which considering im running 8" of up travel and 40" tires i dont think is bad.

I am really pleased with how this has all turned out. Looks all nice and in proportion i think.

Next we had a trial mock up with the wings bonnet and doors to give you some idea of its size. The doors are chopped here at the bottom but are to be chopped and halved at the top to. the bonnet is to under go surgery to. Wings most definatley will be butchered but like i say it was merely a mock up. It put a smile on my face anyways.

Side view

We have now started to get the front legs bent up had a trial run then changed slightly but the camera died so thats your lot for now folks. i hope you can see the potential as I can. Its really starting to take shape now and excited isnt close Laughing

The pictures from now on should see a car start to take shape

Thanks for looking

Danny

Right first of all sorry for the delay in updates completely down to me being lazy really. By the time you resize all the pics and write up some info the clock ticks away. Im not the fastest on the computer.

first up there is a picture of the cross in the roof from above

and beneath

It was getting to the stage where we needed the shocks in place to get some more accurate measurements and clearence checks Im really pleased with the lines of the shock hoops.

These are the top mounts for the coilovers

We have the front cross member/ loop in. .

here you can see how the loop is tied in

Also the rear tray is taking shape tied into the shock hoops

A view through the cab

Just a shot from the side to show its progress
