|
|
Hi i have heard you can use a sammy axle but what other axle are good to put on the front of a vit ??
I am putting a pug 1.9 diesel in with a LDV gearbox and SJ transfer and will poss keep the original rear axle, but if anyone can tell me it is just as easy to obtain both axle from another vehicle please can you help me ?
It is a bit of a dilema at the mo as i dont really want to go much further on my project before i have an idea of the axle !!
Thanks again in advance !!!!!!!!

If you know how to weld in an axle surely you can work out what you can use...?
A samurai axle is the only front axle i know of which you can put the vitara R&P in.

OK so stick with a sammy axle with the Vit R&P, i am using a pug diesel with a LDV gearbox and a SJ transfer, so will this change how the ratio will be keeping the Vit R&P in the sammy axle ?

Im not sure what you mean... I imagine the LDV gearbox ratios are quite similar to Suzuki, the SJ Tbox will be lower then the Vitara one (Cant remember the ratios on them).
But if you use the Vitara gearbox with an SJ transfer box and fit 33" tyres, the overall gearing will be the same as standerd on standard tyres (If i remember rightly), so i would think you will be close to that when you are using the LDV box.

Would you say stay with the vit box with an SJ transfer then ?
Or would the LDV box be better ? i think i was gonna go with the LDV box due to the addition of the PUG diesel but i know you can get a kit of ebay to convert it to the Vit box would works out more expensive though !

Up to you, i wouldnt think either will be better or worse, as i say the ratios are probably very similar.

LDV gearbox will be stronger. Much more fabrication though.

i was going to go SAS using a hilux front axle on jeep yj springs a while ago...as the vitara rear is very strong i was going to leave the rear on using the 4.8 something auto diff(mine was auto anyway) and fit a 4.88 lsd from an lj70 landcruiser to the hilux front so the ratios would be near enough the same for offroad use.

The only thing that would put me off this would be having different bolt patterns on the wheels... Nice Idea though...
