All right Folks,
Forgive my noobishness, but I'm looking some advice on behalf of a relative.
He has an old merc van laying out the side of his house, i had a quick look around it and the engine seems about the only salvageable part.
A few hours on google and i found that its a OM314 engine, which i believe was used in some U400 Unimogs.
Question is, would there be enough interest in such an engine to make it worth while taking out? also how much would you expect to pay for one in reasonable condition?

A very common engine if it's in a van.
Good running order? £250 complete?

It was taken from another van, but when getting parts he was told its a heavy duty "mill" engine.
Not sure if that means anything mind you.
Its been sitting up for a few years, but i would dare say it would fire up again no problems. It would be sitting running before it would be taken out of the van.

Of unknown origin, of unknown condition and has been sitting.
£50 or what ever scrap weight is?
Really it's not worth money if it's a standard van engine. Most scrap yards have a couple of old merc vans kicking around in the undergrowth at the back.

For what its worth the OM314 wasn't fitted to the U400 series. This series of Mogs (UGN 300; 400 and 500) all use the OM900 engine (904 is 4 cylinder and 906 is 6 cylinder). The OM 314 was used in the earlier MBU and SBU series Mogs. The LBU (light model) had the OM364 (model U140) and 600 series engines from the vans, the latest being from the sprinter including gear box (model U100L).
Regards
Stuart
