Can anyone help me??

If your oil is less viscos as in being really thin will it make the engine run a higher oil tempreature?

Also what would be the major concerns or running an engine with too much oil??

Cheers BEN

Hi Ben - you didnt exactly get a flood of replies did you? i saw your post whilst cruising thru and this may - or may not help!
Firstly Im not an oil guru - or any other sort of guru really but i do have some "real life" experience of some of this when working for an industrial diesel manufacturer.
I was tasked with an investigation into the effects of overfilling the sump on said diesels.
In a nutshell - a little overfull = no probs but go too much and the crank starts dipping the oil. The immediate result is the oil temp shoots up, the next things is the pressure drops (as a result of very thin oil) and if you are really unlucky - usually on a worn engine - the thin hot oil works its way up the bores or through the breathers and the engine will run away on its own sump oil. you can switch it off, try and stall it or watch it blow! whatever - you will need a change of pantz afta!
Not sure if you get the pantz bit on a petrol engine, but you will get the first two!
hope that helps?

Yes that helps a lot thanks. Confirming what i wanted to hear an overfilled oil level makes the engine oil in the car run hotter and decreasese pressure!

THANKS!
Cheers

i know on land rover engines if you over fill with too much oil the bottom ends of the pistons whack into the oil and this bursts your front and rear crank seals. Rolling Eyes

The thinner the oil the quicker it circulates if the engine is fine, this removes the heat quicker as it circulates quicker. If its to thin and not the right grade bore scuffing happens as the oil film tears and lets the metal come into contact with metal which causes massive heat rises.

Just use the right grade and fill it to its level and no problems.

Dont forget 4X4's have a bigger sump because the oil flows all over when its off road and the pump needs to pick it up all the time.
