Any body have a wheel for a 404 going spare?
I have a set of second hand tyres coming and once on I will be mobile once more. A spare will be a good thing and will definately make swapping the tyres over a lot more straight forward.
I'm up in County Durham and even have a little bit of money available

I'm in no rush I've been getting around to picking the tyres up from my mate in Bristol since November I think it was so I'll happily wait a week
4 off 12.50 Michellins for £50 I'll roll them up here with a stick one at a time for that price lol!

12.50 or 12.5?
I've a set of 12.00's which I'm thinking about putting on 44's, but iirc 12.5's are 41? 12.50 would be 45's wouldn't they?

Truth be told I can't remember. It has 10.5 and 10.50 on atm the front bargrips which are atrocious to start with have cracks you could put your hand into so not moving anywahere on them. I'm happy with them size wise but at mates rates the bigger felllas are going on whichever size they are. The rim should be wide enough, shouldn't it?
Hopefully I can get them in a Sankey.

Yeah they'll fit in a sankey OK, and the stock mog rims are supposed to be fine for (I presume) 12.5's.
12.5's will fit straight on from what I belive, the 12.00's need the cab lifting an inch.

I have a set of Mog 404 wheels with *******) grips on and they seem to fit the rims Ok - they weigh a ton and really gear up a lot. They do foul my bodywork on full lock or cross axled on the front - but my bodywork is non standard!
The biggest concern I would have is the gear up - I guess about 20% but I can measure and check if you want?

Ha! thats not what I wrote! The tyres I have on standard rims are 12.50 x 20 military bar grips - Bedford RL I think?

Hope this helps:
You really need 8 and 9 inch rims for 10.5-20.
You really need 9 to 11 inch rims for 12.5-20.
Turnip i expect you will have 12.00-20 tyres. The Bedford RL had 11.00-20 i believe so 12.00's would be the MK MJ fitment. It's a size they still use but these days they use radials and not crossply.

12.5 are the common mog size, and they fit on the 9J rims no problems.

Hopefully I'll be picking them up from my mate at the Indoor4x4 Show. It's about half way between Bristol and Bishop Auckland and we where both going so seems like a plan. I have a few Series Landy bits to go down that way too so all looking like a plan!
I'm confident that they will be fine on my rims, not like it goes quickly. I may well make beadlocks for them so that'll widen them anyway.
Gearing may well be an issue, I'll just have to see how it goes!

Ahh - Mr Tyre - you are of course correct! I have checked today and the large set are indeed 12 x 20s!
As a matter of interest I ran a tape over the two sizes - inflated but no load and the 10.5 x 20 are 36" diameter and the 12 x 20 are 43" diameter. I make that a 20% increase in diameter - If I have my sums right, that would mean that whatever revs give you 40 mph on the road would then give you 48 mph.
I know when I used the big wheels with the Ford engine, it didnt like 6th gear on anything much more than level roads, I havent tried them with the Iveco motor because they are useless off road.
There will of course be some deflection under load - although the 12 x 20 are 14 ply! so I dont expect they flex much?

12.0 or 12.00?
Two totally different sizes. The .0 deontes an 80% aspect ratio, whilst the .00 is 100% - What I was trying to get at on the posts above.
The 12.00 <should> be 44" (12+12+20) whilst the 10.5 <should> be 37"
(((((10.5x2.54)/100)x80)x2)/2.54)+20=36.8"
Your just about correct, it's a 16% increase in size on paper, but if you've had a tape on them I'd go with that
I've a set of 12.00's to try too - be interesting to see how you get on with yours. Really I'd like a set of 12.5's but can't complain at the extra 3"

Turnip, you won't get much flex out of anything 14 ply.14 ply tyres are more for load carrying than low pressure work. The military ran them on the MK/MJ at around 20 psi for sand use during the Gulf war, but that was just for sand use.I remember helping to change around 500 of them because one unit drove them on tarmac at 20 psi, it didn't do them much good. The last Bedfords and the Leyland 4 tonners were fitted with Goodyear radials in the same size.

I have a set of 5 off 12 x 20 Good Year Bar grips on Mog 404 9 x 20 wheels. 4 are good with little cracking or crazing, the spare is scuffed on the side walls. They all stay up and they have a minimum of 10mm near the centre rib. They are useless in mud and have had the centre rib cut I imagine to try and get them to clean?
I use 10.5 x 20 tractor tyres most of the time but wanted to use the bar grips for road work to save my tractors.
The problem is that my non standard front arches foul the 12 x 20 when loaded and full lock and since the arches are bulit like a brick outhouse it is not worth changing them.............I dont suppose anyone out there wants to exchange some bar grip 10.5s on wheels for my 12 x 20s?

Might be worth speaking to mogmanner? I think he was getting hold of some bargrips off wheels. Can't remember all the details though.
