The mixture screw is on top of the carb and has a non tamper top on it (has a domed top and a ring round the outside that spins freely) however you can jam a screwdriver between the domed bit and the ring to get it to turn, or even get it out and hacksaw a slot in it to make life easier when you need to adjust it.
Don't actually know which way is richer and which is leaner on these carbs tho, I just fiddle till I get the best running!

Hello mate - just seen your cry for help. I've just looked in my Haynes manual for the mixture screw and found it - but it's hard to describe so bear with me.
Because the picture I'm looking at is a close-up, I can't tell you what bits of detail are near this screw to guide you to it, but you are looking for what looks like a piece of metal tubing about 10-15 mm high - this is positioned so that you look at the tube endways on (i.e. you are looking through the tube from above). Inside the tube is an adjuster which needs a special tool to turn the adjuster screw - I'm sure with a bit of thought you can find something to turn it with.
The inside of the "tube" may have a tamper proof cover over the adjusting screw - either remove it or destroy it. I can't tell you which way to turn the adjuster as "Haynes" doesn't say but before you do all this, check:
Ignition settings, plug gaps and plug condition, air filter condition and that the choke operating mechanism is serviceable. If you need one - I have a spare serviceable carb which you can have cheap.
Regards
Ian

Screws could look different as I always change mine for easier ones to fiddle with.
Screw in clockwise for richer, anti clock wise for leaner.
And it's a ****** to get at as well.
