Hey guys and gals,
Want to know the fuel ecomony people are getting from their disco tdi's on windy rural roads??
How can I tell if a disco is a 300tdi or 200tdi from ebay adverts that just say "tdi"????
Thanks in advance

Discovery 300tdi became available around 1994.
But a 200tdi might still of been registered as new after this date.
& an older Discovery might of had a newer engine fitted more recently.

Look back down the pages here for the 'thread on fuel economy achieved'
some amazing claims.

On standard road tyres, no roofrack/lightbar etc on a hot day I managed 42 on a run with my 200, with mud tyres, lightbar, winch etc etc I average 25.

There are many factors that will affect the mpg. Top of the list is the way you drive, what terrain you are on, off-road low range obviously will drink fuel, flat roads or steep hills, traffic congestion or empty roads, the tyres - muds will drink fuel - road tyres are much better - and having the correct tyre pressure, plus the condition of your vehicle.
There are a few things you can do to improve fuel consumption including blanking off the EGR, de-catting the exhaust and using a fuel additive, but probably the best improvement will come from using fully synthetic oils all round. And while on the subject of lubrication, don't forget to keep the UJs and prop shaft well greased.
The book mpg is 25/26 and that is based on road use but you can get much more than that depending on the many factors that will affect it. There are vastly differing claims on this forrum but you have to compare like with like to get a fair comparison.
