ah. well, i have a v8, but wont be fitting it. there are far (in my opinion) more efficient, powerfull, reliable engines around- the rv8 is a great engine but alot of work for gain- plus i like the 2.25... Steve, i would love one, but i think thats more money than ive put into most of the truck
as for the no-nos... damn. i guess that means awdc trials too? however the landy technically cant do msa events because of the cage. things such as having the fire extinguisher mounted on it and wings built into it mean it shouldnt be able to doesent it? and the rear stays are wrong too... hmmm. something to think about, thanks for mentioning that!

just tune the 2.25 turners used to do a performance head and a cam exhaust manifold but that's a long time ago
you need a bigger bore exhaust for starters a bigger carb about 100 thou off the head and run it on petrol you are losing a lot of power just on gas
gas likes higher compression and more ign advance than petrol
here you are all the bits but at a price

have fun

Yep, they like some cam
My dad got 50hp at the wheels on dyno from the 2.25. But he took too much torque away by too much porting and skimming the flywheel. It was real cammy.
Superchargers do come up second hand. And you are lucky at finding stuff......
RV8 can be good, but its pushing the drive train. Even the props.

Hi, i will look into those upgrades, but tbh theyre alot of money when there are other options oout there. shes running so much better on gas, while there maybe less outright power, i think its worth it for the benefits such as being happy running on steeper angles.

im definatly going to look into the supercharger, but not sure what we'll find. gotta be worth a shot. my drive train should be ok really now, although the gearbox may give out, i just dont fancy a v8. i love them and the sound track and all that, but... i dont know, i fancy something different. i'll be sticking to the 2.25 for a while i think.
not alots been happening recently, apart from the wallet being continually empty! i dont really want to price up this evolution of the landy as i think its probably more than the rest of the build together! so for it to cost more must of got some more bits... ive gone for +5 front shocks rather than what i have at the moment, thats because i will lose travel with the diff hitting the chassis alot sooner, so going to aim for an inch or 2 more droop. i got a limited slip for the front, sub £100 so not doing bad. ive had a pair of shock mounts made up, well, the company cut them out as it would take us ages and they came out fairly cheap. the rims are painted black, went for a set of 8 spokes in the end.
we got another winch for the back (well we got 6 winches for a tenner each) and one of them is simular model to mine, so hopefully we'll be able to rebuild it. we plan to build 1 or 2 hydraulic winches out of the lot, well in our spare time, wait, whats spare time? thanks for the link to the pto winch TeamIdris, but it ended up going for more than i would spend at the moment, me being a cheapskate n all that

cant remember now on 2.25 some people used to leave the inlet tappets another 10 thou loose adds to the valve overlap on std cam you can try it costs nothing also advance the timing more if not done so with gas best mod is get the head skimmed and larger bore exhaust

well, we had our first run in today, mixed bag really. we were all read for it to be great, and to be fair it wasnt bad, all in all considering. but something broke... can you guess what? no? steering arm! never thought that would go... well the rose joint snapped, quite literally, in half. just kinda glad we didnt finish little toe with those on the suspension! so we're going to swap the steering box for the patrol one and that way we can use the standard steering arm etc. once we had some steering again (well quarter of a turn left) we carried on, and wow, dont lockers and lsd's work once it was pointed it was climbing anything, and should be even better when i get used to locking and remembering to unlock it i think we got 26 overall, so not bad for no left lock and missing a section, hopefully next time it will be a better tale.

we've sorted the steering now! at last! we robbed some more of little toes suspension... works a treat so with full steering each way we headed off this morning, it was great! we got there with a little time to spare (the 109 is quite slow up big hills ) the rear prop seems to be doing ok. we were the only people not to get stuck i think, it was really wet! and clay aswell on a sideslope, plenty of recoveries! the new tyres are superb, just grip like theres no tomorrow, and the locker was brilliant for hill climbes, the limited slip was spot on, absolutly gobsmacked where it will go now!
However, as always, there are some bad points... so, the oil pressure light is on more than its not, we are going to change the sensor, but judging by the knock at full beans it might be right also the gearbox has developed some new crunches and now jumps out of reverse and 2nd, sometimes first aswell.
so, we are at a point of either rebuilding the enginge and box we have, tuning where we can, i have a spare box (or 3) so thats no huge worries, and while i will probably nurse the old 2.25 for as long as possible, in the long run its tempting to look out for something else. but to tell the truth im not sure which route i will go, i think auto is the way forward, and im looking probably at an engine layout like my dads buggy, with the transverse engine and box, or a bmw motor or something similar on a zf auto.

theres a complete 300tdi auto disco for sale on the landrover sales/wants southwest facebook page for £300 but auto box slipping, been for sale for a while, reckon £250 would buy it, auto box should be cheap to pick up then weigh the rest in for £150 ish=cheap tdi auto?
*edit, just seen he's down in St austell, the pic was uploaded from Roche which im pretty sure is close to you!

cheers Adam! just had a look, seems ok, he said a few bits missing from the engine so just going to wait and see whats missing, ive got a spare auto box lying around so i just need the torque converter and engine really, i didnt really think of the tdi. only trouble might be the length of the unit as i really want to keep my front end the same with the rad up front aswell and my rear prop is already tiny, worth measuring up though.

The landys been doing well for a while now, and especialy happy with how it went at the awdc easter trial, we double drove it at there were only a couple of very minor issues, the front mudgaurd took a beating as did the wing, the mudgaurd came off and the wing is bent the passenger door hinge came off so some repairs needed to the bulkhead, and the worst fault was the locker not engaging first thing on the monday morning. we think there was water in the vacuum pipes that froze overnight as once i poured a couple of mugs of boiling water over them it was working fine!
the second pic i found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mitcheam/sets/72157633144051764/
I am also looking to make some changes to the truck such as moving the back end around, doing away with the winch etc, i will up date as and when this happens as with the other project too it will be slow progress.

On closer inspection the rear locker isnt working. We have vacuum at the diff and its trying to engage but will only some times bite... we are thinking that someone has engaged the locker while wheels are spinning and taken the teeth off the dog, im yet to strip it down butit looks like its going to be expensive!

before the first 2 national trialing rounds i decided to swap the front springs to allow more movement, i also did some usual fettling and ended uyp with a fair bit of travel now.
at the first round (the sunday) i was told that by the next even i need to have a better firewall and an electric cut off on the gas, and that i need straight diagonals on the rear of the cage, so i will be replacing the fuel tank with a doughnut shape lpg tank in the back with a removable floor above it therefore a firewall with a solenoid cut-off. On the sunday i came 3rd and then on monday 2nd in class B.
as i was about to dig into the back axle i decided to give it a good clean underneath
when i took the diff out this is what found....
there are several teeth on the internal and external parts of the dog, of these teeth about 4 are missing lumps so its off to the main dealer, im not sure if these are the parts you thought it would be Danny? either way i am looking forward to having a locker working again!

You only came second because I wasn't there!! It's my job to come second to Steve Lait or Ted
You have a very capable motor there now Noah and your diving skills are getting a lot better.
You need to clamp the gas bottle and cage it in though mate..
Are you coming to Thornbury ?

If you beat Steve then you know you have a competetive car.
Keep it up mate as the likes of you and Jamie are the future of our sport.

Mig it
They arn't so technical on a dog clutch that it isn't worth trying some home dentistry

Thanks Nick that means a lot! in fairness he had a bad day and i had a good one.
we have made the mount for the new gas bottle and the pics are below.
Ian, thanks i thought the landy was quite pretty but function over form, thanks
Aye, thats what we are trying Steve, its not perfect and we dont know how long it will last, but its got to be worth a try.
here are the repaired gears, hopefully they will last!
And here is the rear tank, this will have a firewall floor built over it to pass regs. It also has an electric solenoid cut off so it will be on/off on the cut out.

Well the locker repair seems to work okay, no nasty noises at the last trial, where i came 1st in class B and 2nd overall Im also happy with the gas tank, although we ended up using a straight tank as we couldnt get all the fittings for the doughnut type tank. Mudguards are doing okay.. one needs mending though..
Picked up another 2.25 petrol that will have a good service and some basic tuning.

Thanks! I tend to stick to the somerset area trials as the extra distance is a drag, however I guess I cant say that going to Buildwas next month
I would consider an alrc trial, but I don't think they would like mine very much!
going to tune it! not going completely with ACR as I need to spend on other areas of the truck, but probably going with the ACR cam, got 40thou pistons new oil pump on its way, ground 2mm off the head, polished the ports and making a 4 branch manifold, aiming for similar output as ACR get.
stripping the block to take it in for re boring
the start of the 4 branch
MUD GUARDS!!!
I had to change the steering box again and I have now fitted a vw SPAM PAS pump, the steering is sooo light now!
So, things to do! new seats, possibly harnesses depending on regs, new tyres, spare wheel mount, stronger trailing arms, skid pan, maybe new cage/modify the current cage, pto or hydraulic front winch, door bars...
