got my series diffs in today so i might be more succsesfull at crawling along due to the lower ratio diffs. tommoros job: fix the hand brake, its quite usefull when you want to park up on a hill for a bit unfortunatly its dissintergrated (understandable realy (the g-box has been in storage for nigh on 20 years ) if anyone knows of a half decent series g-box at reasonable money i might be interested as this ones on its way out, i dowt if it will do more than 3 events oh well oh and and any short halfshafts for a rrc 10 spline will be usefull one cv's allready knocking quite bad (it was dead before i started using those axles) so i imagine that will go soon its a never ending battle but its worth it for the 4 hours fun a month i get and more rewarding than any ps2 games you'l ever get
sorry for any spelling mistakes

second time out, got series diffs in it and handbrake that works and electrics that work... and broke it blown the back diff and possibly a shaft it was my fault, it was a stupid section that i probably shouldent have tried and after the 2nd attempt i should probably should have given up but no my stupidity over took me..... and it had to be the one event i didnt take spares but ive got to take the g-box out again cause my box is knackered i think ill get the front done and the back finnished at the same time oh well theres allways next time

Stick an lt77 in instead and the LT230 transfer box will give you lower gears. 3.33:1 instead of 2:1. Makes quite a difference.

thanks i want to get it completly finnished first but ill keep an eye out for when i change the box. im considering changing axles at some point (when ive got time money etc behind me) i was/am thinking about mitsi axles because theyre the same ratio (well theyre close enough for what i do) as series and theyve got difflocks, well at least in the back from what ive heard theyre strong aswell (not sure how true that is?) but thats for the future just want to get it finnished first

no your not wrong, what i was going to do was put a mitsi front in because the diff ratio's are almost the same as my diffs, something like 4.6:1 or 4.8:1 from what i renember so thyre close enough for offroad but i would need to turn the axle upside down then turn the diff up the other way so it runs forwards... a lot of work for what you get i would be just as good to get a series salisbury and convert it to coil springs i think would be my best bet

got the diff out today and its the plannet gears that have gone, ive decided im going to weld up my new diff so ive got a welded rear diff and see what it goes like after that. i also dropped the g box out of another landy so ill be changing that in a couple of weeks i want to finnish the trayback off before the next event because it just doesent look right at the moment. anyone going tagging on tommoro?

not much update-not done much on it tbh, although on closer inspection the crown wheel is missing a few splines. anyway the other day i was looking through my pictures and i found a few of my landy and the 1st build... and its first event
(courtesy of the all wheel drive club)
the last one is an artical in the awdc where it all started getting expensive

thanks tony
been to the scrapyard today had a look at engines, a merc 6 cyl ois mahoosive so thats out of the window so its either rover 620/414 or 418 or a vw td on a series box, a lot of work but i think if i spend a load of timelearning to tig weld i could mate the two bell housings together and if it doesent work my dads got sponcership from the scrapy which involves free parts so it would be a case of go out and get another one if you get what i mean.
ive spent more time thinking about mitsi axle (i would rather g-wagon axles..but im never going to afford it unless im realy lucky and a set come up cheap) so mitsi back diff is in the centre rather than on the right, i think i could get around that using wide angle uj's and a bit of thinking.
for the here and now though ive started the passenger wing so tommorow i hope to get it started properl, ive measuired up where i need to bend the tube and marked it etc, hopefully il remember to take my phone down tommorow and ill get some pics .

yesturday was good, i came 5th pretty much on towing people out, i towed 6 people out and got a traffic light (worth 5 points) for towing a stuck marshal up to the burger van and didnt get stuck once dumper tyres are great.
anyway, i got the back done, it was ok but 1 side is better than the other side, i bent one abit to much and had to beat it out with a hammer so theres a few dents.. but other than that it looks realy good, i need to fit the highlift mouts as its just ratchet strapped down at the moment. the front is complete at last!!! theres even space for a winch, although it will probably be a capstan winch in the back i ven got photos!!! ill try and upload them next week because im at school now so not so easy just to get my phone out and plug it in lol

and now the back...
well thats the back, but... should i paint it
a: black?
b: green?
c: leave it how it is?
im pleased with it i even found that sj tail lights fit perfect in between the tray back and roll cage diagonal, so ill probably fit them at some point i think a bit of fishing net (proper heavy duty stuff) across the back will allow me to use the load bay for stuff without it all falling out what do you lot think of it?
oh...and the dash, i renember mentioning it but heres a pic, not great but still a pic
i have more pics but they went when i got a new phone

lots of thinking has taken place over the last hour or two and it has been decided that the best bet is to fit the 2.5 turbo from an early defender thats in the back of the shed instead of spending lots of money.. so i just need permision from the farmer, should be ok, ive done hime loads of favours recently...
its only one engine mount, fuel, rad, all the other things you end up doing, i should get some more pics of the conversion
the lad whos giving me a hand just happens to be family who ive done lots of favours and owns 40 acres of offroad heaven! so before the strip down were going to take it up there on the trailor (he needs a couple of vehicles moving) in return for a drive in the morning once ive replaced the engine (doing that this week ive got off school) if ive got the engine in im going to be.....fitting the umm im going to be labeled a red neck for saying this but...ive got a a nos kit i bought on ebay a couple of years ago for £50 so ill be fitting that...along with opening the pump right out and winding the boost on the turrbo up..for a reason.. to get the fueling the right time so it doesent plink...well as litle as possible...
its allready pretty tweaked, the timings been changed so its fueling at the right time. next year at school i get to do a college course, im planning to do diagnostics and remapping, and adjust the ecu to get ultimate power, theres probably a spcific name for the course but...
so i might even practice on my landy...
whats everyones veiws on a wizards of noz going in a series 2a hybrid turbo diesel lol

riiiiight
is it a TD or a TDI?
if its a td then the pump cant really be opened out any where as much as a tdi one,
a td engine will go pop if you even give it a sniff of the laughing gas, hell they go pop on there own in road going vehicles, i would advise heavilly to find a tdi instead & use that,
you wont get a diesel to pink as such, the correct term is diesel knock or cracking, with a diesel the timing helps but the more fuel you can get in the better,
also i hope you are aware that there is no ecu on a td, not even on a tdi, first landrover diesel to have an ecu is the td5,
any questions give us a shout as i was going to fit nos to my tdi auto but then built a td5 buggy instead
