Hi all

Been watch from the outside for a while.Great threads,pictures and loads of good tips.

The mog is in the work shop having a new body put together, here are some pictures before.

Can anyone tell me where to get a owners and workshop manual for this mog?

Toy or workhorse?

Atkinson Vos should be able to supply everything you need.
AC Price also and Park Agri.

Thanks for list of contacts

The mog is for work use,as with so many it will be used in the tree industry.

The beast by hellgeth bros would be my first choice design,but i am going to have to stick with a tipper with a roof.
I will begoing for a roll cage or tree guard

The mog was used by the electric board as a cherry picker so it came with a Hydraulic PTO pump. i may consider linking a log splitter up. or running a crane on a trailer.
Any advice on the hydraulics PTO capabilties on the unimog?

Afraid I cannot comment on the hydraulics on yours as it's a totally different set up to the other shaped mogs.I have a U1000 which has the factory hydraulics,3 way tipper,rear lift arms and 2 circuits on quick release front and back.I am just about to attach a hydraulic rear ground anchor,rear hydro Werner winch and a front hydraulic Bosch jobby.
The U1000 hydraulics are rated at 230bar and 53l/min, so if your pump is running at that then I suspect you'll be able to run most things from it.

Hi Johnw nice tyres......now I,m fairly new as well (my Mog is only a 1300L ex Military) and I don,t have any hydraulics. I,ver never understood why Merc decided to bring out the 140 type Mog, can anyone enlighten me? The Germans are more usually known for their love of simplifying and keeping the range small, so they must have had good reason for these Mogs, is that cab cheaper to build?(is it a direct sucessor to the U900 type round cab?) Normalbloke, just a question, you seem to be well endowed in the winch (and knowledge) department, do you use your Unimog for work or do you compete? I,m holding back on buying a winch (electric from AV) until I see just how much I will need one in Poland. (There,s about 6 inches of Real Snow there at the moment (I,m watching a live cam in the Local Polish Village on her in doors,s laptop at this very moment.)

I "think" and it's all IMHO, that the U140 etc were brought out as a more cost effective platform for the utility company for using as MEWPs(cherry pickers etc) I think they use a sprinter engine(or similar) but still have hydraulic and PTO potential.
My mog is purely a toy.I do not compete in any events, but attend many pay and play sites and also play on Salisbury Plain..I have always wanted one as a kid,and I'm not getting any younger so I thought why not.Bought as a bog standard U1000 from Mudie Bond at Tewksbury.Have since always been fettling with it,adding a spare wheel carrier,small swinglift crane,re-did the bed and spider(corrosion).Have added a 130bhp pump from Atkinson V,and am close to putting on the turbo, for maybe 160bhp.Have fitted a pyrometer(EGT guage) to keep it all safe too.Once the turbo is on and running happily I'll be adding a chargecooler too.Have added some interior comforts, like leather seat,a bit of audio and CB.We also built a nudge bar for the front and a faux rollover bar for the back to improve the looks!
If you can stretch to it have you considered addign a hydaulic system to your U1300?All parts are available second hand, and it will bolt straight on.It will also power a winch that is far more suitable for a Mog.With regards to holding back to see if you need one,it used to worry me daft playing in the mud without one,and I am in a similar situation again waiting for mounts to be made for my 2 that are poised to go on.If you do get it stuck it will be a LOT of effort to get it out, don't ask me how I know!

Hi dreadnought...I would agree with normal bloke the u 100 and 140 could be a cost effective platform for utiltiy companys.

before i purchased this mog i was hiring a cherry picker u100 with a 3litre sprinter engine. after talking with chap that owned the mog i was impressed with the low repair and running costs.Brakes filters Etc.

i was in the market for a 7.5 ton 814 lorry,or a mog.

it was then a toss up between a u90 u100 and u 140 tipper. i purchased the u140l because of the road speed, chassis length,cost and its effectiveness in our work.off road.

This mog comes with a electric winch for recovery but we will be looking to use it for pulling trees out of rivers, so we may need some kind of butt plate or anchor. any suggestions or pics?

Have a look on Benzworld and do a search for ground anchor or rear spragg.There is a catalogue of photos.
This is the problem I was up against,the w hydraulic Werner winches are relentless and as such it will be the Mog that gets pulled along before it reaches it's potential.I am adapting a mini digger front blade to go across the back ,with hydraulic drop arms from the 3 point link arms t hat should let me tuck it up high enough when offroad so that it doesn't encroach on my departure angle.I would post some pics but haven#t progressed it at all yet,although I have almost all the parts, I shalll start cutting the blade over Crimbo.

Normal Bloke I should have read your answers here first, instead of the other thread. Hmm, I suppose second hand hydraulic parts should keep the cost down. (and the AV electric winches are not cheap - but at that price had better be damn good, rated about 6Tonnes) I have thoughts/nightmares about getting stuck with the MOG in Poland, but might add a 4WD tractor to my posse when I get there so if I,m not too far from home I can use the Tractor to rescue myself. Going back to the 140 did you say a Sprinter engine? I have the 2.9 non turbo 5 cyl version in my Pinzgauer, the engine is in good condition, but its a slug without a turbo...on road hills are a 2nd gear proposition (I,m sure it would fly up with a turbo - but there is not much room and the RED heat would be inches from the passenger,s left leg. (keep em warm in winter though). So Salisbury Plain eh? just down the road from me. I,m in Swindon, we,ll have to have a Mog Day. (Say the word and I,ll be there) Before the Mog I was thinking of one of those re-conditioned French Sumbs with a Turbo Diesel, or the Renault 7.5 Ton Truck with Portals with replaced the SUMB (TRM 2000). The bloke I bought my Mog off was buying a Swedish (I think) MAN 4x4 Mog Sized, but I don,t think it has portals, looks the part though!.
