Hi, my check engine light has come on, the jeep still drives but won't go above 20mph and won't change up, no other warning lights are on.

Any ideas what could be the fault, it is the 2.7 CRD auto, the engine sounds fine and revs normally, I can get 1st and reverse and the 4 wheel drive.

Can anyone advise how I can reset the light ?

Also does nayone know of a mobile Jeep mechanic in the Aldershot/Farnborough area who could come out and run diagnostics?

many thanks

Chris

go to the following link and you'll find out how to get the codes displayed in your dash and what they mean too...

http://www.allpar.com/fix/computer-codes.html

There may be some codes not listed but find out what the codes are and take it from there.

hi Jonny ... thats a great site, thanks, tried what they suggested but the 3-5 key turns didnt work, in the end I did the odometer rest button and turn ignition on and that ran the diags but came up with Done and no error code, the check engine light still stays on and it won't go past 2nd gear.

I have ordered an OBDII interface for the laptop and will see what that suggests but in the mean time if anyone else has any ideas they are gratefully accepted.

Also a bit of background, the Jeep has been absolutely fine but this started during the torrential rain storms last week, wondering if it is due to water in the electrics somewhere, if anyone has any idea to narrow down where to look I would appreciate it

thanks again Jonny

Just how many Jeeps do you have?

At the last count it includes a 2.7CRD 2002, a Cherokee 1998 and a 2003 Grand Cherokee - no wonder you have so many posts on this site.

Perhaps time to go back to Land Rover.

Not sure what your point is here? Maybe I am reading your post wrong , my apologies if it isn't a 'flame'.

Is it because I am asking a few questions and not giving anything back yet ? Is 8 posts a lot then ? If so then I apologise but I thought the purpose of the forum was to help each other out.

Just to be clear , I have Jeep only,a 2002 Grand Cherokee ,the ref to a 2003 was one I went to look at when I was looking to buy a Jeep, don't know where you got the 1998 one from, never owned one or said I had one.

In comparison with the LandRover forum , with the exception of a few great guys on here willing to share their knowledge and advice this forum seems to lack the camraderie that LR has which is a shame.

I may be a newbie to Jeeps but as you can see from my landrover days if I have experience and can help some one I will do.

Thanks to those who have had the patience to help me anyway.

I had a similar issue on my 03 GC CRD.
Turned out the MAF sensor hard worked ever so slightly loose and tripped the ECU into limp mode.

Seeing as I was moving house at the time I had to get a local garage to reset the ECU. Cost me £50.
Took about 10 minutes. In fairness they then did also run a full physical & electrical check of the engine to try and ensure no further faults. Rolling Eyes

Howdy chrisst2 (and others)
I have a 2004 WJ CRD that has gone into limp mode (stuck in second) but no error code.
I would like to know more about the odometer reset method and also if you managed to solve your issue
Cheers
PS
Also former owner of several LandRovers. Just waiting...

Seems I have the following answers to yesterday's issue:
1. Starting the jeep while holding down the odo (trip) reset button will make the display cycle through the digits and then display any trouble codes - or DONE if there arent any. I was interested in this approach because turning the key on and off 4 times wasnt coming up with anything even though the Check Engine (MIL) light was on.
2. Technical Services Bulletin 2100908 (http://www.wjjeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wg_2100908.pdf) describes this fault (CRD export models ie WG) and attributes it to several things including battery problems (I can put my hand up for this). The fault often resets itself on driving (yes - so far) but may need the ECM to be flashed with a DRB3 Scan Tool (this time). So its off down to the mechanics to see what they can do (cos I really hope I dont have to go to Jeep)[/url]

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a bit so that the computer re boots has to be worth a try apart from that ask at your local small garage they may have diagnostics for jeeps in with there computer package.

Then he would have big troubles , no heater, turning circle of a bus, tennis elbow & back problems to boot ....if he got there, hahahaha Laughing I have 5 or 6 defenders rotting in various places around the farm, if i thought i wouldnt get any bother i would sell them, but i save folk the hassle & let nature take its toll..
