Right, right next to where i live theres a little white road on an OS map, so when i went to check it out there was no sign saying it was a byway, footpath, etc......and there were no signs telling me i wasnt aloud there.
However, a farmer has put a big box thing stopping anyone going along the road.
I'm pretty sure they cant do that and that the road is an UCR??
I'm gonna go confront someone, but i was wondering weather i should??
Advice??
Cheers, Andrew.

You gonna confront someone without being sure that the track is ucr?
Doesn't sound wise to me.
Why not get your facts straight and if you've then got cause for complaint about an illegal road blockage report it to your local authority for them to deal with.

A good starting block to check a lanes status is here
http://www.trailwise.org.uk/index.php
And your local council rights of way office.
I hope it works out the lanes a goodn.

IMHO, Dont confront anyone, just get the information and pass it over to the authorities. Confronting someone will just end up in a slanging match and possibly draw the kind of publicity that we all wish to avoid.

So it's shown as a "white" on the OS Map.
Does it have any other map markings?

Hmmm, thats fine.
I'l go to the council......i'm nearly 100% that it should be a UCR.
I'm sure everybody has encountered something on a lane to try and deter people??
There are no signs saying i cant be there (Private road, No access), and there are no signs saying its a footpath or byway.
On the OS map, it just a white road conecting to yellow roads, not dashes or dimonds, nothing.

"The representation on this map of any other road, track or path is no evidence of the existance of a right of way"
That is the quote that is on ALL OS maps, so not a good idea to confront anyone until you are totally LEGALLY sure of your facts, plus it is not your job to "police" any RoW. That must be left to the people who have the power of the law behind them.
I suspect you will probably need to talk to your Highways Dept, not the RoW Dept. You "might" find it on the "list of streets".

90% of Farm tracks are like that here - you still wouldn't drive them tho!
Check it out first then if its a "lane" take great pleasure in reporting the obstruction and then driving the lane once cleared.

Oh yeah, and that trailwise site isnt very good.
I've used it before and its been wrong time and time again......i find the OS maps far better, just my opinion though.

That's up to the people that use it. It only "knows" what users contribute. If you know better, contribute.

There is no need for you to confront anyone.
Ring the county council office.
Ascertain the extension no. of the dept. dealing with RoW.
Get put through and ask for email address for person concerned.
Send email giving locality, grid ref for start and finish and ask for status of route.
Give them 2 days and then send reminder.
Act in a professional manner. Check your spelling etc. A poorly written email is likely to be ignored.
If response is yes its legit, advise council that it is blocked and you want the blockage removed.
Keep tabs on progress.
Better still join GLASS and let them do it for you. Believe me the local rep. will have a lot more clout.
Roger
