this ones got me baffled,
went out and about today , done about 25 miles . when slowing down from around 60mphjust touched the brakes and the whole truck started to shake , not like a warped disc type of shake . the whole truck just went almost to the point of being uncontrolable . well i stayed behind in the workshop after work and all ive found is a bit of play in the front prop and a little in the front passenger side swivel bearing and a small amount of play in the drivers side trackrod end .
now this is the same sort of shaking that a mate had and we never got to the bottom of his problem , to tight fisted to pay for parts , he just part ex`d it .
so as any one got any idea`s as to were to start lookiong after i replace these bits tomorrow, i`m not that confident of sorting it out with the amount of play thats there.
i forgot to say its a 300tdi disco 1994

sounds a bit strange,
have you checked the wheel bearings.
also, check the tyres for a possible egg coming up due to the braceing starting to fail. if it has, then a tyre will start to de-form under brakeing, causeing all sorts of strange handling.

Now this will sound strange.....
I had the same syptoms, checked all what you have checked.
Turned out i had too much pressure in my tyres, let them down a couple of psi, wobble gone.
(Land rover newly rebuilt, kinda new everything, all bushes, new wheels tyres, balanced, tracking done...)
Bertie.

Death Wobble! Great fun.
Used to be a manhole cover on the curved approach to a roundbout on my test route that never failed to instigate this under braking!

Death wobble x2
Caused by play in the steering components or incorrect preload on the swivel bearings, you seem to have both!
I experienced this on a 1971 series landrover many years ago and found bits of play in the multitude of track rod ends on a series vehicle. once they were replaced no more wobble.
