I took the float bowl off an SU carb today and when I came to put it back together the neoprene seal was past its best and too large a diameter to fit in the groove. I remembered something a colleague at work said and thought I would give it a whirl.

Before putting the seal in the microwave for 2 seconds on full power.

After a quick nuke.

Magic! This tip was given to me by a colleague who has been in radio comms since Marconi was a lad. It is not recommended as a permanent fix but it has got him out of trouble a couple of times and will tide me over until my bits arrive from Burlen. Very Happy

Warning: It stinks to high heaven. Don't do it if your wife, girlfriend, mother or landlady is at home. Laughing

I have used the home microwave to determine which common plastic materials make good insulators for radio frequency coil formers. Put a sample in the microwave and if it gets hot or catches fire it is no good as an insulator. Very Happy Use an old plate for testing purposes otherwise the Mrs gets very upset. Laughing

I deliberately chose the title to raise a smile. Very Happy

My female math(s) treacher was an ex Canadian Air Force officer. Anyone asking to borrow a rubber from a classmate got the blackboard, "eraser," thrown at them and was made to stand outside the classroom. Rolling Eyes

My eye pricked up on the title of the post--Having read the perfectly normal post about seals, I then turn my Brit thinking to American thoughts and then the whole text sounds--- Well really funny.
Yah see on this side a rubber is a condom if you didn't know that already! Cheers Dennis

Depending on the judge, she might get away with that excuse.
