Check the level in my rear diff today, seemed fine. The colour was lightish brown, is this how is it should be? I am thinking not Shocked

if its ep 90 then it should be light yellow, clear ish.

if its brown no doubt you have had some crud in thre at some point, the diffs on my 90 had about an egg cup full of what could only be described as runny soil in them when i got it. filled them with difflocks evo and all is great, much quieter.

Lightish brown suggests that water is getting in. Check the breathers are clear, if they are not oil can get out past the seals when the diff warms up and water can be sucked in when the diff cools when you go through water.

Water mixed with oil = bad lubricant.

Replace the oil with Difflock fully synthetic oil, it really makes a difference. (brownie points please Richard).

Unless its an LSD? Friction type LSDs turn the oil a light golden brown due to the wear on the friction plates.

If its definately not an LSD then you have crud in it as said above.
