Someone's probably going to come along and shoot me for saying this...

Yes and No. A LR90 can tow 1600kg, but you need the "+E" category on your license to tow 1600kg with a LR90.

See this thread here: http://forum.difflock.com/viewtopic.php?t=41970

It's all a bit confusing...

It aint cheep either... I passed my test in august 97 not knowing any thing about this stupid test untill a couple off mounths ago and ive been towing trailers all this time.. fully loaded stock boxes weighing over 3 tone.
The worst bit is in my tractor i can tow what ever weight i want and i could do that at 16yo on a tractor licence . makes scence dont it.. i love the laws off this country.. Applause

You can tow more than 750kg, obviously it will need to be braked but:

- max authorised mass of car + trailer cannot exceed 3500kg
- max authorised mass of trailer cannot exceed unladen mass of the towing vehicle

I think you'll get caught out on the first point, with the combination you mentioned. A VW SPAM with a 900kg caravan (for example) would be the kind of thing you could tow with the B category on the licence.

Max loaded weight of a LR 90 is 2,400 kg (but check your documents before accepting this figure), giving a maximum trailer weight of 1,100kg (3,500-2,400) with a modern category B license.

In a tractor u cant actually tow whatever u want, its a gross weight of 23.450kg, that's everything the tractor, trailer and the load!! and at 16 you can only drive a tractor of up to 1.54m wide! and i took my E category last year fairly easy, as long as you can reverse.

I'm in the same boat, 23 and passed in 03. I only found out about this law earlier this year and I've been towing heavy loads since I passed my test over 6 3/4 years ago! Thankfully work is willing to lend a hand in gaining my "+E" and I go for my assessment on Friday Smile
