thinking of getting a diesel Vitara and want to run it on veg. Does anyone do this? am I right the later models use direct injection Mazda engines (which wont be any good for veg) and the earlier ones are indirect?
Many thanks

I run my 1.5TD Corsa on Veg without any issues. :p
Depends what Diesel pump the Vitara engine uses and what type of diesel engine it is as to how you can run it on Veg.
Bosch pumps are fine with almost neat veg! Need to dilute it in cold weather with diesel to prevent it gelling in the tank or fit a fuel heater. Lucas pumps are not so good on Veg but can still run on it.
Change fuel filters regularly and ensure you filter the oil well if it is used oil before putting it in your car.
Modern common rail diesels are better off on Bio Diesel than veg oil.
Fitting an Isuzu 1.7TD to my Samurai at the moment and that use's the same pump as my 1.5TD Corsa so I will be running my Samurai on veg too!

wrong wrong and ..... wrong.
two words ring gumming.
and for the last time common rails cannot run veggy oil................
twin tank conversion is the only way to safguard your engine.
search for it.

There were some LWB 5 door Vits made with the 2litre HDI engine - which I am told will run Veg, I don't know what mods you need tho.
The only Vitara with a Suitable engine is the SWB Van version with the 1.9 Peugeot Diesel - But it can have a Bosch fuel pump or a Lucas fuel pump.
You need to check which pump it has, with a Bosch pump the 1.9 Pug engine is "safe" for oil virtually unmodded.
If it has a Lucas pump it MUST be twin tanked.
Later Grand Vitaras had both a Normal diesel and a Common rail fitted...

So my 1.9 Fiat TD with Bosch pump and heated fuel filter should be fine running veg oil and a mixture of diesel and veg??.

If its mechanical indirect inject it should work fine for you. Try it on a 30:70 veg to diesel mix and see how it runs. If all is good try 50:50 and if thats good try 70:30. You do need to change your fuel filter more often but I have done 20K miles with no issues. Better using less veg in cold temperatures due to fats in the oil solidifying leading to clogged filters.
The comment above regarding ring gumming is only really relevant to common rail engines when the fuel being injected is cold and leads to gumming. That is why I said Common Rail is best run on Bio Diesel. But I guess you could use a twin tank and heater system effectively.
There is loads of info on the net about different setups these are some good sites

The Fiat i have is mechanical indirect injection so i think will be a good base to start from.
The Later Fiat JTD diesel engines as i understand are not so good for vege.

Aye, DON'T put Veg in a JTD
They're commonrail - like the Multijet
