looks more and more like the current range rover of the time, every time they change the model or update it.
makes you wonder what's the point in spending more to by a rangey.
mind you can't afford to buy a rangey, ( disco maybe ) so it's not really an issue, and if i could i wouldn't, got more respect for my money, i'd stick to the old ninety.
new disco's, by and large, are for people who want to aspire to a rangey for so called class status, Hmmmmmmmm!
that's why they loose so much money second/third hand, dous'nt look so good to "the Jones's" in the supermarket carpark.
the only ( by and large ) time that the get used to thier potential is when us "onk's" get are mitt's on em!

I live in the next village from Land Rover at Gaydon. I have often seen new vehicles out on test before they are launched... RR Sport, Disco 3, Freelander 2. I also see new Jags and Astons. (saw a very shrouded up Jag last weekend)
I have been looking out for a Disco 4.. but have not seen one as yet. Outwardly the big difference is the grille, But I guess it'd not be too difficult to put an old style grille on eh?
I have seen a RR Sport with a shroud over the grille, so you may see some changes there soon.... __________________________________ RRC bobtail.... metal box on wheels into which you pour money.
Whats the point, I really cant figure it out. They are moving away from being a good, useable car to being a cut price range rover thats good for nothing other than nipping to the shops.
I love Disco 1's, they look like they can be used to work. They've conqor'd the world. I remember the first time i saw a camel trophy disco and it looked so purposeful. The new models dont look useful at all. They look like they belong in the suburbs, and to me, thats just not what a discovery is ment for.
I remember my old man bought a new discovery back in 1994. First day he had it, he took it for some mild off-roading for a three hour trek accross the mountain. After that he bought a brand new P38 range rover that never once went off-road. And i think thats the difference.
Gues so. Times change and companys change with them. The discovery is no more a proper off-road vehicle but instead a comfy/quiet platform for mothers to do the school run in.

I must disagree about the Discovery's abilities off road!
My 200TDi is kitted for off road with Cooper STT's etc and there is one particular hill on one of my mates land that stops me every time. I took a Discovery 3 over the same terrain including this hill and it cruised it on standard tyres! These machines are incredible off road!
Yes it will be used more often for the school run than off road and yes there are low down bits to break off, but just because its posh, don't discount its capabilities. __________________________________ If I had to explain, you wouldn't understand
Possibly..But im not totally convinced. Car design has changed alot in recent years, gone away from mechanical engineering etc. Look at RRC and the P38. You may see P38's offroad. But they dont cut it. Least i've never seen one cut it personally. And im not totally convinced Newer disco's will as they go further offroad, especialy not in extreme conditions. Mind i say that but i was browsing through stats the other day and the disco 3 has a deeper standard wading depth than a disco 1 for example. I may be wrong, I hope i am. Time will tell best.
Im sure the Disco 4 will go as far as the Disco 2 which will go as far (further?) than a 2 and so on....
The issue for offroading is cost and willingness to mod.
If they tested a stock Disco 1 against a stock Disco 3 I bet the 3 would win, subject to driver balls... __________________________________ www.balagraphics.co.uk
Quite possibly actualy, especialy if you wasnt worried about damaging your car etc. Think thats the good thing about owning an old disco now, i take it out, try everything, and if it breaks, it breaks. Doesnt matter, not quite the same with a new car.
