evening all, picked up a L reg hilux, its a 2.5 non turbo 4x4. and it runs, pulls, and drives really smoothly, but there is a ticking/ knocking noise from the top of the engine somewhere at first i thaught it was a rocker arm adjuster come out or verry loose but i found it has hydraulic tappets so im a bit stuck now. Anyone ever had this same problem??

Ni mate,
It may be a sticky tappet causing the noise.
Try draining the oil and flushing the engine with flushing oil.
Then fit a new filter and some new oil.

May just cure it for you.

Interesting - not too far gone if it sounded like "ticking" then?

Welcome, BTW. Oh, you're not new . . . .

I like my Disco, I am just getting a little bored and need some more space, and sure it does leak every now and then but it see's plenty of everyday use inc off road every weekend and is totally reliable. The only car that comes close to the Disco IMHO is the 80, easy to fix, plenty of options, no electronics but the 80 does have better build quality.

regards

Dave
