Hi,

Since your vehicle is a TD5 Diesel then you have a couple of choices concerning your engine oil, depending on whether you want maximum fuel economy or maximum engine life.

For engines in standard, factory tune then a 5W30 viscosity span to ACEA grade A1/B1 will give the best balance between engine protection and maximum fuel economy.

Hence from our range, our 5W30 High Synthetic Engine Oil will give maximum economy and superb protection for all standard tune TD5s.

However, if you have any performance enhancements fitted (superchips, bigger intercooler etc) then you need an oil with a higher upper viscosity and a fully synthetic formulation to cope with the higher temperatures and stresses encountered in boosted engines.

Therefore, for performance enhanced TD5s, you should opt for a fully synthetic oil of 5W40 viscosity and ACEA grade A3/B3 and B4. From our range the perfect lube would be our 5W40 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil and will ensure that those higher running temperatures and stresses don't lead to accelerated wear.

As far as gearboxes SPAM you have a manual 5 speed gearbox then we recommend our Evolution 1 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil (typically gives improved shifting from cold - Do read the customer feedback at the bottom of our online store page for Evolution 1).

For transfer gearboxes and axles, you could opt for a multigrade EP80W90 (gives better flow from start up than EP90 on cold mornings) gear oil to API GL5. If you want the very best lubrication for the axles and transfer box then go for a 75W90 fully synthetic gear oil to API GL5 such as our Evolution 2 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil.

Using our fully synthetic oils throughout your transmission will give around a three percent improvement in fuel economy compared to conventional oils. This isn't huge but it is enough to more than pay for the oils over their full 48,000 mile lifetime.

For propshafts, you require a Lithium EP Grease to NLGI-2. Our Long Life Lithium Grease is specially formulated to withstand abnormal operating conditions where a high temperature grease is specified and where excellent adhesion and water resistance are desirable. As such it is perfect for propshafts and wheel bearings but it is NOT suitable for use in your swivel housing, ie it is not one shot grease.

Summarising, for temperate climate (eg UK) our full recommendations and capacities for your vehicle are as follows:

Standard Tune TD5 Diesel Engine 7.2 Litres 5W30 High Synthetic Engine Oil

Performance Enhanced Diesel TD5 Engine 7.2 Litres 5W40 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil

Manual R380 Gearbox 2.7 Evolution 1 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil

Transfer Gearbox 2.3 Litres Evolution 2 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil or GL5 Multigrade Gear Oil EP 80W90

Front Differential 1.7 Litres Evolution 2 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil or GL5 Multigrade Gear Oil EP 80W90

Rear Differential 1.7 Litres Evolution 2 Fully Synthetic Gear Oil or GL5 Multigrade Gear Oil EP 80W90

You can find detailed guides to renewing your gear oils in our free online magazine. Do have a read because a few special tools are needed and these are detailed in the guides. Cut and paste these links into your browser:

Please note Evolution 1 is a completely different lubricant to Evolution 2, the labels on the cartons do list the Land Rover applications to avoid confusion.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards

Peter

Go for http://shop.difflock.com/dexroniii-litre-p-53.html

You will need to a follow a 3 refill procedure to do a full ATF change (it is NOT oil). First drain and change filters then refill using new ATF. Because you can only change half of the fluid at a time you must then drive for 500 miles then do another change and then again for a 3rd time to make sure you've changed as much as you reasonably can.

The fact that the engine is chipped does make any difference to the gearbox.
