Viv wanted me to tell you that that is a good looking space ship you are building there,

But personally I do not think it will even approach light speed, especially with Ash framing. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Like many Veteran transports, it has one of the earlier versions of the cloaking device used in more primitive Galaxies. As they did not have the technology to simply hide the hull, they disguised it.

This particular example is from a very primitive period and uses an SEP field to 'hide' most of the bulk and the seating is simply made to look 'period'. As with all vehicles of this age getting them started is an art form, getting up to cruising speed is steady but easy however stopping them is positively scary.

It ain't no sand racer!

It's almost finished!!!

Just aluminium panelling, paint and upholstery to go. There are new rear springs on order to go with the new rear dumb irons and shackles, a new exhaust and a little bit of carburation work and it'll be done, home and ready for me to start fixing all the wee bits found whilst the body was off.

The new scuttle (dash or firewall) is about 2" taller to accommodate the tank and 1" wider to look right with the new footboards and body. It was also made nearly twice as thick to carry the weight of the tank.

No, I didn't, but I did find a local Company who will make me lovely repro handles. The original car had ball handle tops or short straight tops.

What do you mean 'already'? It's always dropped oil, it is British after all.

Photos of the body complete and ready for panelling, painting and upholstery ...

Note: The rear suspension has yet to be replaced with original style dumb-irons and new uprated springs. I am also replacing the exhaust so it clears the scuttle and exits at the rear rather than the side.

It is very rare to find one that isn't. At the time chassis were regarded as service items!

Funny thing forums, I saw your reply on my Blackberry and was about to post a 'sarky' response but decided to look at the photo once I got my laptop fired up and to my amazement I spotted that the rear wings had not been refitted for these photos! Glad I checked Embarassed Embarassed

The rear wings have been removed to make access to the body easier. What is also on the cards is to remove the totally non-period rear 'crossmember' (which the number plate is fixed to) and the 2 bits of flat bar that act as rear dumb-irons (the bits of chassis extension that the spring mount to). The Springs are both too soft for the extra weight and only 2/3 the length they should be which will be corrected by the new reproduction items being made as we speak - a bit like these

The next detail is the footplate for the edge of the body and I'm getting a brass strip engraved to replicate this one but it will be curved to match the later body style.

Will have more photos soon

Things are starting to move quicker now ...

Panelling is complete and getting ready for paint

You can see how the rear end does not look right and needs proper dumb irons and longer springs but that the axle will not be relocated.

I've seen that before and it is quite amazing but not exactly a restoration?

It is being painted in a rich dark green (191x colour) with probably deep orange piping and matching leather upholstery.

Just need to get a move on with my new garage!!

absolutly brilliant, I bet you cant wait to sit in it when its all finished and toot that bulb horn for the first time! I'd be like a big kid!!!

have you got an acetylene lighting set for it? I can imagine well polished brass lamps swinging from the car as it clatters and hums down the road,

you will be using it on the road won't you, for shows and such? how many gears does it have and what sort of speed will you get? I imagine anything over 40mph would be crazy

Luke

And its Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen! Smile

Looks like they have done a very nice job with the panelling and painting. Not a ripple in sight.

Looking good, been following this thread for a while and Im loving it.

Have you ever taken it to the Dorset Steam Fair? I know its not a steam powered vehicle but they have thousands of vintage cars/bikes/trucks there too and the biggest auto jumble/market youve ever seen!
