I am considering making on up - I was just concerned about getting the bearing retainer bit and the caliper positioning correct. I want it to remain a safe on-road vehicle

im sure you have seen the way that the sjs are done it must work the same way on a jim too as in useing all the front ends stuff

i hear that jim axles are based on sj410 units so would sj 410 callipers and mounting hardware work

the jimny axle is basically a samurai axle with single piece shafts (doesnt need the drum to fix to the wheel) i was goin to do my rear discs at christmas but decided to leave it until iv done the transfer box conversion so i can use a transmittion hand brake. but from my measurements a samurai conversion plate should fit the jim.

just like martin i was goin to make my own as i have on my other off roaders but as its a road goer and my daily drive im just a bit worried.

Hi Rob Toft, how is the trial fitting on the Jimny rear disc coinversion coming on? are you going to be selling caliper/bearing retainer brackets shortly? What calipers are you going to use?
I have looked at Rover 600 ones but the cable brackets protrude under the chassis quite a way and there seems to be a problem mounting the caliper to the rear of the axle on the off-side because of the panhard rod mounting bracket, may I ask what you have found on this?

Regards, looking forward to your reply, Steve.
(I tried your website email but havent had a reply yet, is it working ok?)

Steve,

What email address did you use mate?

Things have been a little mad over here of late, and we have not managed to fit the test kit yet. I'm hoping to get it fitted this weekend so will have an update for you all after then.

OK so I now have a Jimny sat on my drive with a rear disc kit on it!

There are a couple of little mods to make 1 to make it easier to fit, and the other to deal with an issue we had when trying to adjust the hand brake. The it's off to be put on a rolling road to make sure they work as well as the drums did before we started the game.

So with any luck you will not have to wait to much longer. I have posted some photos over on Shropshire Suzuki of you want to take a look.

http://shropshire-suzuki.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7703

I will stick a few more up in the next day or so, so that you can see it on a Jimny and not just on an axle.

Any questions drop me a PM

OK kit tested out OK on the rolling road..... so the only test we have left to take it out for a day in the mud, do nothing with it and see what happens. The test will be done this weekend at a local site to Telford, so if anyone wants to pop over to have a look at the kit then drop me a PM and I'll let you know where we are going to be.

If all works week the 1st batch of kits should be available to purchase in about 3 weeks time. We will have the pricing sorted after the weekend.

I will post a load of pics up after the weekend so you can see what your getting for your money.

You can use Spidertrax KIT for samurai after some modifications. You need to widen central hole in plate with wheel studs. Also you need two front calipers, two front brake disks, T-branch (I used t-branch from Isuzu Trooper), one 80 cm brake tube, one 30 cm brake tube and two brake pipes (10-15 cm length) with O-ring mount on caliper and mother in other end.

I bought spidertrax KIT but my friend made better mount plates after looking on spidertrax. My mount plates have place for outer seal for protection rear bearing from water and mud.

Quick update for you chaps on the progress so far.

The tests we did went well, we transfered the kit onto a second Jimny and have come across a couple of problems we are still working on to make sure that the kit is what you would expect from us in both quality and build standard.

I will keep you update but we are hoping not to be to far away now.....

Watch this space.

Just as a query, cars fitted with the ABS option have a slightly different rear axle and bearing retainer set-up. These cars seem to appear around 2003.
