Ive bought a 110 and now decided i want to make it abit more expedition prepared. Not sure weather the design i make for the back will allow for sleeping in it or just use a tent. Its a van sided 2 door, but already i plan to put defender 90 windows in the side , just a pair.

I am curious about the side storage boxes that go into the free space in front of the rear wheels. Couldnt find anything about them online.

Basically im after photos to help me decide what i want and with ideas!

Cheers

Well, the windows will certainly help manouvering easier. One of the problems I found with my van bodied ltwt was that the 'glance over shoulder' had to be planned of where I was going to put the vehicle.

With the back of the 110 I'm sure you've got loads of space for ideas. In the back of my ltwt I put a foot wide peice of wood between the wheel arches at the front (behind the drivers seat but in the back) with a hinged flap below it. Enough space there for tools and hidden out of the way.

Do you want it for one or two people to sleep in the back? If it's just one you could get away with setting up a sort of bunk system on one side that folds up or something. But for two then your best bet would probably to have boards running across the width of the floor bed between the wheel arches. You could put hatch covers to access the storage space underneath.

With my Ltwt I had a long ammo tin attached on the O/S wheelarch that stored quite a bit in with space at the back for some strapped in containers (oil & water), with space I mean about 8 inches wide from the back of the ammo tin to the back of the bulkhead...

I'll see if I've got some photos somewhere Surprised This was in the days of film though.

With a 110 you certainly will have plenty of oppourtunity to customise it as you so wish.

You might also want to consider (down the line) a rear locking diff. One of the reasons for not getting LWBs is their size. I've always been warned off it and oh look at how many people here have SWB beasties Very Happy

People mean very different things by the term 'expedition prepared'

It really is dependent on where and when you are planning to go, solo vehicle or part of a convoy. A solo vehicle traversing Australia will require much larger fuel, water and spares carried then a 2/3 week trip around Europe. For the solo long trip a LWB vehicle is probably essential whereas a convoy trip around Europe a SWB is more then adequate.

A overland vehicle is an ongoing evolving project. Double your prepararation time and triple your budget. If going on a long trip buy the best gear that you need/can afford. The maxium buy cheap pay twice over is very true for expedition vehicles
