I don't know where the lack of lubrication bit comes from. I was told by a diesel fitter, who examined a Hilux pickup that had been run on WVO for 80K of its 100K, that the wear on the engine was much lower than he would have expected for a truck that had been run on regular dino diesel.

Veg oil is much thicker and needs to be preheated to at least 60C for the injector pump to handle it. Once you have that sussed you are laughing.

Sorry, didn't spot the bottom line on domestic heating oil. Embarassed

I know nothing about running on heating oil, apart from the fact that it is illegal and if you get your tank dipped by HMRC, you could end up getting your truck confiscated, plus a hefty fine for tax evasion.

If you're using the heating oil for an Aga etc. then you're paying vat and duty for that purpose, if you intend to put it in your motor, you'd have to pay extra duty and even then you could fall foul of the law, as for the extra lubrication, you can put an egg cup full of two stroke oil in with each tank.

Using any diesel substitute is dodgy at best, some motors get away with it a lot don't, it cost me £1010 to find out mine wouldn't and that was cheap, due to a very good mechanic mate, could have bought a lot of diesel for that eh!

If the motor you're running it in is a cheap old bus, then you've not much to lose, if it's a decent motor, then think hard about it.

First thing you should do though, before using anything, is price up a new diesel pump, because that's what'll break if it goes belly up.

Just my humble opinion, but I've been bitten on the ****, wouldn't anyone else to be in the same situation.

You need to declare road duty on any rebated fuel you put in your cars tank to use on a public highway.

Kerosene and Paraffin have Chemical markers in it that HMR&C can test for - just the same as red diesel.
And if you are caught using it you are in trouble.

To run Kerosene in an offroad engine requires you to add engine oil or veg oil to the fuel to lubricate the injection pump.

My tractor runs fine on Paraffin/vegoil mix.

What do you need to know?

I answered your heating oil question above

I cannot find any mention of amounts...

I would mix it at 50 parts to 1 ratio.

So thats a 500ml of oil into 25 litres of fuel

I would also use cheap 2 stroke oil - as it mixes better with fuel than motor oil and will no doubt smoke less.

Either that or use veg oil at maybe 25-1 ratio.

many many years ago we had an old transit and landy with a good supply of heating oil to get rid of, got a lot of free motoring but it definatly did niether engine any good, if had been one engine i would have said possibly, as i was both i would say it will damage

thing is customs can see your using it, yes some people get away with running red, so its your choice, is it woth the chance of the fine and confiscation of your vehicle

if its a case of just paying the duty if its otherwise waste then possibly it may be worth as a 50/50 mix

If it meant that, wouldn't it say that Think

Start your research here -

My guess is no, because your kero has been delivered as MKO, a 'Controlled Oil', and I doubt it is possible to un-control it afterwards. But you neeed to do your own homework, because it is you that the Revenue would skin. You could always ask them!

cheers, Ross K
