Hey,
Recently I've been noticing a loss of power up in the higher rpm's 3500+ under WOT. At first it was just a bit of a loss and I figured it was due to my larger wheel installation. In the past three days I've taken her offroading a few times and it seems to get really bad when i hit the paved road home after getting off the trails. It gets so bad that I can barely touch the gas in order to get maximum power. It's as if im getting a poor fuel to air mixture ratio and when i open up the butterfly fully, there isn't the same amount of fuel to go along. Maybe I'm totally wrong? I'm just looking for someone who's maybe had a similar problem before. Thanks!

what is it, 1600 or 1700 you don't say.
don't know about the 1700's although thay maybe the same dizzy, but on the 1600 the base plate in them can start to stick causing the problems you describe. (advance and retard are affected).
more pronounced under load, ie:- going up hill in say 4-5 where it normally will do it and having to change down a couple of cogs to keep the power there, in other words gutless.
this may be your problem, or the vacume pipe has come adrift is another idea witch springs to mind.
i may have a diesel 90 now, but i had a niva for years, good old tool and vastly underrated.

Yours is a 1.7TBi isn't it? Is the [check engine] light on? Check for vacuum leaks or disconnected hoses.

Yes sorry, it is a 1.7TBi. The check engine light does not come on however I have had it come on twice completely out of the occassion I am describing. If I start the car for example and just dont move it, let it sit for a while sometimes the light will come on and then shut off after I drive for a few seconds. I figure thats nothing to be worried about considering the little buggers have minds of their own. Will check for disconnected or even cracked hoses though, thanks!

The ECU and [Check Engine] light in the Niva are utterly trustworthy. If it comes on you have a problem.
Download the Niva TBi 101 from my website and follow the instructions to get the error codes.

Alright the PCV hose from the crank case to the airbox was cracked through in several places. Replaced it as well as removed the silicone seal I covered the two little pencil sized holes with in the airbox cover plate as I wasn't sure how important they were. She works fine in all RPM's now. Thanks guys!
