What tyres are good for a 2000 Grand Cherokee looking for 40% road use and 60% off road with out the need to lift the suspention?

My choice would be either a Goodyear Wrangler ATR or MTR

big tyres are not the be all and end all.
minimal lift + huge tyres = no articulation
no articulation = wheel leaves ground
wheel leaves ground = NO 4 wheel drive.
= you stop.
a set of tyres matched to your terrain and of the correct size will be more effective.
i had a over 12" of gap between the top of the tyre and the lower lip of the arch, yet it would still catch.
keep all for wheels down and you`ll get a lot further.

Looks good and will be very good off road
however when its your only car you can't have it both ways, so min lift and decent tyres is about the best compromise for most people as we need it to be safe and comfortable

err, it was my only drive.
kids to school, shopping ect
it was built with this specifically in mind.
it had to be useable on and off road.
see last decembers total off road for full run down
few more pics here

the piont i was making was that appropriate tyres were more use than BIG tyres.
a nice ste of kl71`s are a good compromise, good in the mud and well behaved on the road.
big isnt always better with tyres.

Cobbo?
16" wheels or the 17"? If 17's, the only AT's I could find were Toyo Open Country AT.
If they are the 16's, you have tons. I have just put General Grabber AT2's on the KJ, and it walked through snow when the 4x4 across the road (a Touran) could go nowhere.

I've got BFG mud terrains 245/75R16, which i ran with no lift for about a year. No problems apart from a bit of rubbing when disconnected & at max articulation. Spot on with a 2" lift. Pretty good on the road too but obviously noisier. Had 'em about 4 years now and my wife uses it every day with no probs.
Had to do a bit of trimming on the front bumper now i've got the steelies on with less backspacing.

Dave Hunter

60/40 then BFG A/T would be my choice.
If you use motorways frequently then a M/T tyre will make a lot of noise and possibly tear itself up.
I like the BFG's because of the additional side wall strength and puncture resistance.
