Can anyone tell me if the driveshafts are different on an 80 with factory diff locks to an 80 without?

I am looking to sell the Disco and go for an 80. The problem is the spanish version of the 80 does not have diff locks, and importing a VX from the UK has other issues, I have also been told I cannot just swap axles as they are different.

If they axles are different then are they stronger? I could get a spanish spec and just fit ARB's myself but I need the strength in the axle and halfshaft. If there is no difference then why did toyota change the axle mounts ect (or so I am told)?

TIA

regards

Dave

Easest way would be buy a spainsh one and import a set of axles from the uk. You might find that all the wireing is there.

As per my question, I am told the difflocked axles have different mounts to the non diff lock versions? If I knew they were the same I would do just that.

It seems the difflocked axles may have a stronger mounting/fitting ect,

thanks anyway I will keep looking.

Dave

The axle cases are not the same, but the mounts are. I know of a set of locked axles that will be for sale soon. Well as soon as I change them!!

I got hold of a set with 4.88 diffs fitted only a few months old. The standard is 4.1. Better for me as I run 35" tyres.
