hi guys, I know a guy who has a rolling unimog chassis and I'm thinking of using the axles for a little rock buggy (when I finish the 4-link-4-wheel-steer G)
its early 50's, Its R.H.D, it was original owned by the ESB and this guys dad bought it from them in the 70's and used it on there farm until a bout 10 years ago when the rotten cab was stripped off it and dumped, Its since sat In a barn unused!
I originally when to look at it thinking off putting a G shell on it, I was thinking 404/406 size!
but its actually smaller than a swb G!
it DOESNT have torque tubes, and what I was told was a 1800cc diesel engine, with pto's front and rear.
any one know what model it is?
would the axles be any good for a mini rock buggy?
regard mick.

It is of no use to you what so ever! What you need to do is post it to me
Seriously though I wasn't aware of any Mog's not having torque tubes, even the itsy bitsy little 411's did.
I guess pictures would be helpful.

a pic might be a bit more usefull to identify it
merc did a 4x4 with props but it was based on the 406/416 axels
as for the 411 yep they use torque tubes too

I'm probably wrong about the torque tubes, it was a while a go when I looked at it, I don't have any pictures of it, as it wasn't what I was expecting when I went to look at it, I wasn't aware at the time that there was one that small!
also it didn't have a divorce transfer box, Is this correct for a 411?
I thought that unimogs had divorce transfer boxes, like G wagens.
what are 411 axles like strength wise?
any Idea of gear ratios?
and more Importantly how common are they, what are the chances of spare parts?
regards mick.

theres two types of 411 axel (and two wheel bases 67" and 84")
first gen same as 404(one piece cast diff housing) only norrower
second gen based on the 406/416 clamshell axel which are more beefed up axel than the 404
gearing wise i think they are slightly lower geared (without looking in the three a4 workshop manual)
and all unimog do not have a devorced t-case (why would they)because the gearbox is the main mounting point for both torque tubes/suspension
and as for being comon i have two
parts are hard but not impossible to get if you know where to look
and i dont think they did a 411 in a rhd model in fact most mogs are lhd unless you have them converted(something to do with adding three steering box/links into the system and most customers dont want the added cost and complexity of it
and would they make a good buggy axel (see kitkat in the custom build section)which is what im planing on doing with a set on a kitcar shell/tube chassis

thanks for the info minimog, the kit-kat looks the biz what t-case are you planing to use?
from what I remember the axles on the chassis look similar to those, in that there not cast but "clamshell" type similar to dumpers etc.
what would be the biggest size tyres that would be "safe" to use with 411 axles?
what is the track width of them?
Ive heard that 404's are about 3ish in the diffs and 3ish in the drop boxes giving an equivalent to about a 6.0 diff is this correct?
would 411's be lower again then?
