Howdy all,

I've killed a brake line (it doesn't leak but is bent at >90 degrees at the fitting). It's the front left - from splitter on diff to wheel, it's only about 2 foot long.

Anyway, I went to great pains to get a proper tool when we did it, as the cheap flarers won't do the hard brake lines to a proper double flare.

I have the tube and fittings, but no flarer. Could anyone do it - I can post it to all to you with some beer tokens.

jim

Have you tried to get a price for a genuine new one?It might be surprisingly cheap.I damaged a flexi on my U1000 and was going to go to my local hydraulic hose dealer to have one made, but Atkinson -Vos could deliver one for £20,so I didn't bother. You could also replace the hard line with a stainless braided line for the same price i would have thought for similar money from a hose shop.
I'd be interested to see how much the Snap on kit would cost and whether it'd be cost effective or not.I'm always a fan of buying the tool when you need it,not sure I'd need one of those often enough to warrant it.
Reminds me of a Snap on van i saw near us, their motto had been "modified"

Snap-on, nothing comes close,to our prices...

I almost always buy tools, but since we'd laid out £50 on some s*i*y flarer which wouldn't touch the pipe I didn't feel like it. They seemed to start about £150+, though the sykes pic one we borrowed from a truck place (all hail Warrington Truck parts) ran to about 300.

I still think it's too much cash for a hopefully little used tool. Thinking about it, I could probably just cut the length and take the fittings at lunch time and do it in their car park.

cheers,

jim

Cheers fella,

We've been doing some logging with the mog round derek's farm today. The pipe hasn't gone (and probably won't), but it'll fail the test, and I wouldn't want to go on road with it.

Need to get a test at some point, she's running lovely. Handbrake adjust and a new light, she should be hot to trot.

So no great rush at the moment.

jim
