other than that it seems i have alot of forum info to catch up on!

Minimog,, any chance you could tell me where you go those fantastic pitures of that red 404 on super swapers from please,

Nath,

Try looking in front of, rather than behind the passenger side tire, just about the front of the fender opening, outer side of the frame rail.

Thanks you two,

My mog really is just a complete drive train and chassis and axles etc. The engine date refers back to 69 but that about it, seems in really good condition to be fair? But i need some decent wheel and tyres, one is falling off the rims !

The previous owner has tried to spray it all cream of all colours Embarassed
Some has stayed on and the rest came off today with the steam cleaner?

Is the engine worth saving? no wiring or dizzy top or carb to be honest ! Quite fancy converting it to diesel since i don't have a cab or any bodywork to mess around cutting?

Minimog--- thanks for the piccy's i've since found out that the mog belongs to stephane B Deux from Mantagues in Quebec and has resently cut it up?

Using the parts for another buggy? Anybody know if he had a build up thread? The suspension is wild and I can't make out what he has done to the rear axle? Steering at the back?

It sems to be mid engined too ?

Hello again lol Wink

So how much did you pay?

What to do with it depends on what you want to do with it.

well i've decided i'm starting to strip the old girl down and make a 404 buggy for winch challenges etc and see just how mental a 404 can be. So

engine out, cut/ unbolt all the bits/brackets off the chassis i dont't need and as the french put it 'Le Bob' the rear overhang,

So make me an offer ( Very cheap) or it gets weighed in !

All the brake parts are for grabs as i'm going disc, rear swivel hitch big Girl type, attached to rear cross member Embarassed

Engine, unknown condition, needs-rebuild i would think.......hand brake lever, difflock lever, steering box, pedal box, bell housing, difflock rods, etc. all i want to be left is the chassis, axles and gearbox. every thing else is going,

based in arounf junc 36 of the M6 if anybody is interested

I also have 2 prop driven mechanical winches from poland that i might be tempted to sell at the right price. both are complete but would require some fab work to fit the front of a mog as they weer cut straight from the original chassis. Super strong nearl 20mm bond on them! Rolling Eyes

well after a very nice chap parted with a 404 pto ( thanks Minmog)
I've just spent a few hours playing with the gearbox and pto, and found the blanking plate for the second lever Embarassed so i can engage the pto at will !

! FRom what i can work out you can drive with the pto in and out and use all the gears too? don't know where reverse is Rolling Eyes any pointers please?

I would like to run just a transfer box keeping the torque tubes, and run an auto engine and box. I have just read that Minimog tried a little while ago, but i'm not sure how far he got with it?
I would like to combine all the grey matter from this mog forum to provide a solution that every one can adapt and afford. ( so speek up please lads?)
failing that does anybody know how to spin the gear stick 180 degrees so its pointing back?rock mog did it a while ago but i can't find any info about it?

If i can't find an immediate solution i will use the gearbox as a crawler type box and drive from a different auto/ engine combination in the back,

I'll probably post it up Embarassed

any way difflock levers off, bell housing off,( bloody heavy for what it is) pedal box off, all the drums and brakes are off and the brake levers and cables off, all part of a calorie controlled diet!

photos to follow,

problems withs moggs are the gear ratios are crap. 1st and second are ok for crawling around, but as soon as you hit the then all stops its to high in most ocasions,
the remedey would be to alter the gear selectors, get rid of the 1st an 2nd position, and convert it to an 8 speed transmission, using the top 4 gears only, you have 4 gears but then would have a low box full 4 gears and then a high box full 4 gears,
pretty easy really, i have already done mine,
oh and you also keep your crawler box and the alterations would give you 4 crawler gears not just 2.

your welcome
the reverce is the lever to the right of the gear stick (as you sit in the drivers seat )ok if it was still there it has three possitions down is forward middle is nutral(what you put it in when using the pto) and up is reverce when in the last two positions you will only be able to engage 1st and second thist is normal so dont go forcing the lever
as for my atempt i gave up when dave started his bell housing and found it was made out of a alloy that would just not weld and the box needed a lot of work would be far easyer just getting a new case machined up
as for the gear stick you can unbolt it but if you look closly theres just a slight difference (on the front bit theres a oil port)

thanks for the info lads,

all i'm after is to reverse the gear stick handel to face backwards a the front of my chairs should be about the sane level as the back of the gear box, have a good selection of appropriate gears not nessacerily all six and keep the pto selectable so i can drive assist. Also If i was to fit an engine and box in the rear and then drive it through a remote transfer case, how would reverse work?

ultimately i would like to build this buggy to compete in winch challenge events both here and in europe. without all the messy expensive gear that you just can't feasibly fix up a jungle!!

Keep it simple !

I don't suppose you still have the cut gear box do you minimog?

how muck play should there be on the input shaft on the gearbox? have approx imately 3 mm in all directions, but the inside of the box and the gears all look like new?

just added some pictures of what i'm thinking about but a much smaller TX box from rakeway, same size as an a4 piece of paper !, and bullet proof.

thanks

well im back !!
Very Happy

I now have 17" travel( 51" long unladen) coilovers x4 and my transfer box from the ukraine. I have just spent today taking the engine and auto box out of the supra, and removing the rear prop etc and all the wires !!!
Due to the amount of wires does anybody know if your can mega spurt a straight six lump? it just might save me some time with adapting the loom?
The only down side is the auto box has some electronic control for the overdrive etc.

First time out with the tape measure and the engine and box complete is only 62 inches long which should fit nicely facing rearward.

i'll post some pictures shortly, i'm oalso after some round engine mounts to make new captive mounts for the engine and box, any ideas out there/

thanks in advance,

Sounds like it's coming together Nat.
I'm intrigued by the Ukranian transferbox thought the nice man at Rakeway was doing the exotics transmission or is that the main box stuff?
