70mph winds!?! does that mean if I drive straight in to one of these gusts, with my foot to the floor I'll end up going backwards at about 10mph?

We've been down to 20mph before on the A19 in our Old Merc 508D Horse Wagon, it had a HUGE luton body on it! into Bad head winds!
Its hasn't been particularly windy here yet.

had one tree down in the work carpark, plenty more to come. I'm dreading what state the roof'll be in when I get home as it was in need of some TLC anyway.

I saw a tree take out two Previas outside work.
It did worry me slightly when dibble had closed of part of a road through the town centre, roof tiles from a 4 storey high restaurant were smashed on the road next to us,,, I don`t think the Zook soft top would take much of an impact

i hope the chimney isn't in the bedroom when i get home, the pots cracked and it's one of those jobs i've been putting off for the last 2 years
had quite an interesting drive to work this morning in my extra tall light weight zook, i was blown around all over the place. the gusts are a lot stronger now than they were earlier so should be a fun drive home
your neighbor must be well gutted mike

I drove back from work at dinner and had to dodge the odd tree, even the not very tall Smurf was buffeted quite alarmingly! I got home expecting worse, but things weren't too bad... having said that, neighbours have tiles missing and alarms are going off.
I've tied my large double back gate to the Series one and jumped over my ajoining wall to secure my neighbours back gate that was about to take flying lessons!
Everything is tied down and I really should go to work..... but looking out of my window I can see my little Series one, stationary in a smallish back yard bouncing around like Simon Owens avatar!! I think I'll stay at home for a while just in case!

Hi,
The water in my WC is quite active....maybe my vent pipe isn't high enough.
Once upon a time there was a thing called "Factor of Safety". Usually also known as 2, or 5, but never 602. "How fast will the wind blow, absolute max?" "Oh, about 100mph" "So we aim for a Factor of Safety of 2" , (which should compensate for the appretice's substandard maths) " and design everything to withstand 200mph winds".
Then the bean-counters came along.....and my TV transmitter has been down twice since Xmas.
602

Seen a few trees down while out and about earlier this afternoon. One big one totally blocked the road in Oulton.
Neighbour is out looking for his new garden shed, it left home about two hours ago, and cleared his house on take off.
Just been reported, 92 mph winds on Ainley top on the M62.
Worst traffic hazzard in my area is wheely bins. Followed one on Leeds road, it was doing a steady 40 mph, I was quite pleased when it veered off the road into the park, another one bounced off the front of the moter on Aberford road, shot out of a private drive.
Wind speed seems to be increasing, should be interesting later this evening.
Pete.

we've had 4 trees down in the carpark at work, loads more around the business park, well they did built it in a wood, cutting the roots as they layed carparks etc.
Power went off and a couple of hours later that meant the phone system went down. Not good as it's the network control centre for the eastmidlands trunk roads and motorways. We managed to bodge it back together for them with a couple og generators so hopefully it'll be ok. The leccy here has just come back on so it's probably back there now too.

Saw a few trees down in central London as I was walking from work to the main line.
Tubes were in chaos, roads were earily quiet except for the sound of sirens - the City police had all there 4x4's out and roads closed where hoardings had blown down.
My mainline station (Fenchurch St) was absolutely heaving where the delays had caused slow running etc and get home to find we have 3 fence panels fewer than we had this morning!
Think I'll stay in bed tomorrow!

We lost 3 fence panels at the height of it, the wind managed to snap one FOUR INCH fence post and pull another clean out of the ground! One house behind us lost the top off their conservatory, It's only been up two years! Not seen any trees down round here but I did think twice about parking under them.

My house was fine yesterday..............Pity Work wasn't.
The whole side of the Dutch barn blew in, bearing in mind the the unit is 24,000 square foot!!
We also lost the top of the gable end on my MOT bay, roof sheets, fascia panels, and security cameras !
One of the roof sheets hit me in the back when I was telling one of the tenants not to work outside as it was risky. So I'm a bit sore this morning.
Paul.

Hi,
Winds blow trees down, happens all the time, its just more obvious this year. Falling trees cause inconvenience, and sometimes kill people.
Local Councils employ Arborial Officers (or whatever). How come its not part of his job to go round checking on every large tree within falling distance of a road or footpath, house, pylon, etc?
We have had two largish trees fall across, and block the Neath Canal....at least two months ago, and they are still there.

I lost the roof off my shed, must have gone up like a kite, gave the garage roof a blow and landed about 50yds away. Hopefully we've seen the last of the high winds for a while.

Came into work Sunday night to find that the management carpark was cordoned off; part of the warehouse roof at that end of the building had come off on Friday night.
Also, part of the warehouse roof at our Runcorn depot was blown off on Friday night; that site was closed for the night.
On Wednesday, the roof of one of our double-deck artics' was ripped off whilst on the M6 near Shap.

Got a day of lectures off 'cos the building lost part of it's roof, and a mate saw a bloke get knocked off his motor bike as he came out from behind a building.
It gets a bit breezy down here with only the Isle of White for shelter.

Work got hit pretty bad.
About 8 stone ridge tiles and around 15 slate tiles flew off, and hit all over the rear car park. We had a conference on at work at the time, so the rear car park was full.
One of our staff had electric wing mirror smashed to pieces.
Another had a slate dent and pierced the back of her Peugeot 307 (behind the rear passenger door). Worse part is its part of the structural body shell. should be interesting to fix.
They're having a nightmare trying to sort out insurance as don't want to claim on their insurance as will loose NCB. We rent our office from the organisation who rents it from a landlord who looks after it on behalf of a chief landlord. How much of a pain in the ass is that.....

Hi,
Its the retailer who is liable, or in this case the bloke you pay rent to. Simply ask for details of his insurers. He will pass the buck if he can, but that way he does the work.
