Every now and then we put on little festivals (normally called Evilstock) at derek's farm, we did a really little one at the weekend (30 rather than 300 people, and 2 bands instead of the dozen last time)

I think half the people come to have a ride in/on the unimog, and the weather was superb.

First off, we did a spot of logging. There were about 15 leylandi (?) growing under and into some powerlines, so out they came. The first 10 or so got dragged out with rope or the winch so as to get some of the root. The last 5 were far enough from the powerlines that derek let me drive over them. To save his apple tree, I had to drive over them all in a line. They all came down easily enough, but I then got beached on them all!

Cue an hour or so of hard work to cut and drag them all out. The rear diff lever and brake lines survived fine!

I've been doing some thinking, and that's what a proper 4x4 is all about, standing on the roof, yanking out trees... perfect!

What kind of music they they play?

This time we had a guitarist/singer (actually the guy on the rope) does some covers, some original folky songs and some comedy songs. Then we had an excellent band called Up To The Rafters (yes, I know!) who work with some friends. They did indie/dance music, they were very good.

Last year we had - my house covers band (which never rehearses, and rarely even meets beforehand), a manchester guitar band (the snarls), a brazilian trio (beliza), a choir (the voice collective), a reggae band from oxford (makating), a folk band (pigs might fly), and some others - but I was very drunk!

We might have a proper one next year, and I'll invite the differs I've met.

jim

looks like the kind of parties we used to have. people climbing ropes, pushing big logs on to fires with landies and general sillyness.

A silly little video from the weekend (7 min)

Link

If you think using a winch cable for a zip line isn't a good idea, you probably shouldn't watch this (or any of my other videos for that matter).

jim "redneck fun"
