Today i looked at an SJ with a calmini shackle reversal kit fitted and i like the look of it for a bit of lift with better clearance than huge extension shackles.
has anyone on here done it and if so how did you find i worked?
i quickley copied the diamentions of the mounts so i might be doing some fab this week!

mike, a few of thw southwest boys run calmini 5" lift, nothing really bad to say about it all, apart from the cost!
i think rhino ray sells the turrets on their own

have allso seen were the the front shakle hanger has been cut off, the the rear one(the one at the rear off the front spring) has allso been cut off.
the old front one is then welded were the rear one was. and then a lenght off 4"x2" box is welded across the front chassie mounts (were the spring mounts were cut off) the the old rear mounts are welded to this..
turn the springs around. back to front. and the use the stanard shackles on the rear off the front spring...
so really you are turning the standard front set up back to front..
shackle reversal ..
but by adding the 2" box section give it a bit off lift to

I know someone that ran that set up and found the prop kept busting the transfer case, but i never saw the set up and dont know what caused this, food for thought though? most people seem to be fine with it.

the springs move back when being compressed with shackle reversal. not like standard set up were springs move forward when compressed..
was the bloke runing a prop spacer? could have been to big and when prop was moveing back was busting t-box?
calmini steve runs reversers shackle, but he runs a 410 prop as it just that bit longer than a sammy on

To be honest pete, i do suspect that was the problem, but since i didnt see his set up i really dont know, but as you point out, the reversal means the prop pushes towards the transfer case, so a prop bottoming is going to transfer any forces to the transfer case, i know it only happened after a hard drop, which would obviously compress everything to it's limits, so perhaps longer bump stops are needed? like i say, i didnt ever see the set up so i cant really add any more.

yeap as you say longer bump stops is the key as with any lift. you should lenghten the bump stop the same amount as the lift you give it..
spring don't like going past flat!! kill em in no time doing that

with the calmini kit you get the bump stop extenders too, i run the calmini 3.5 set up, it came with a 1" front prop spacer, but i found it didnt fit well when the sj was sat on the flat and it had to be forced in (it also kept knocking me out of 4wd when the car bounced) so i replaced it with a bits4vits 12mm spacer, and bingo, no more problems
as for the calmini kit, go for it, its the best bit of kit ive bought for my sj

its all made and fitted now and I am impressed with it.
It drives very nicely its improved in lots of ways and i've tried lots of different braking and handling tests, none of the horrors taked about in the link above?
attempting to post pics but they need re sizing as there 1.5M each!

Mike,
Looks good, were the spare bits n bobs any use?
Don't forget to extend your bumpstops by the same amount as the lift has provided though, it's key to success or not
For image resizing I use this FREE program:
http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm
Get the pics from your camera into a folder on your PC and then open / resize / save them with Pixresizer. It can also do a batch of them in one go.
Couldn't be simpler...
Nigel.
