ok
for some time i watched the price of fuel rise and my 300 tdi i can just run at 1.35 a litre, but next week whats it goin to be? i have friend who run veg/ bio and other fuels . none of them can give me the answer i want so i turned to difflock.com. been reading post all day and im lost.
my idea
i have a 300tdi disco r reg. 95k on clock runs like a dream only mod EGR valve plate. i was thinking of running 50/50 veg oil. does this mean i can pop to tesco and buy 40 litres and tip it in to my 40 litres of fuel in the tank or do i need to add anything? also whats the law in regards to the fuel duty etc?? and is it safe what problem am i gona hit.?
please help!

the 300tdi fuel pump is safe as regards to veg oil, however Direct Injection engines can and do suffer from Piston Ring Gumming caused by cold starts on veg oil.
You can run a blend in them, I wouldn't go above 30% veg in a DI - Do a twin tank conversion for less than £200 and run on 100% oil.
You are allowed 2500l a year of veg oil/animal SPAM/home produced Bio Diesel before paying road duty on it.
Stay away from Soya oils.

This thread will tell you the best prices http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/viewthread.php?tid=346
As for waste oil, most chip shops use Lard to fry in, however any resteraunt that does chips or a burger bar/kebab shop will use veg oil.
Have a look at my sticky at the top of this thread for a filtering plant.

you can tell he comes fro Yerksha!
My Disco is the same vintage as yours and I've been running 50/50. I chuck 30 litres of Veg Oil in then top it off with 30 litres of Diesel.
I was looking at the twin tank option as Nat recommends but the price of veg oil is going up so quickly it might not be worth it soon anyway.
Saisburys and Tesco already sell their oils for £1.30 per litre. My local Waitrose and LIDL are still doing it for 95p. Even in bulk I can only get it down to 90p. Part of my Saturday routine now is to fetch 30 litres of oil from LIDLs. I'm building up a stock of it in the shed.

Aye lad!
Lard, Beef Dripping - Call it what you will, its just a bit too thick (as in solid at even 15") to be of practical use as a fuel...
Reet, ganna dash and check mother has fed t'whippets.

Depends what you mean by cubes?
Are they solid blocks so something like Palm oil or cardboard cubes with a plastic vessel inside?

Scaff , i suspect you have common rail technology in your 03 wagon.
so veggy is a serious no no... twin tank conversion is the way forward however with the latest veggy oil prices its not worth the expense and hassle.
unless you do galactic mileage or are a framer with OSR or a chip shop using liquid veg handy then its not viable....
BIODIESEL will be absolutly fine if you can find / make some. HTH

I have found my self a supplier of pure waste veg oil in liquid form but he wants 40p litre (is that too much to make it worth while once filtered) I have never tried this before and dont want to cock it up!!!
