The subject of carrying fuel on the back came up some time ago on on of the German forums that I am a member of. Carrying fuel on the rear is illegal in most EEC countries and the police can be hot on this. However a number of members stated that they carried water cans in place of fuel as this is perfectly legal. The only thing is it may attract the attention of the Police in any case as they may want to check that it is not fuel. You may want to mark on the can water or H2O to avoid any possible suspicion.

By the way, ensure that the can is black or prevents any sunlight getting on to the water through the can as this will encourage the proliferation of bacteria and other micro organisms such as algi. See-through cans are OK inside the truck but not in the sunlight. Black plastic NATO Jerry Cans are available that will fit into the standard NATO and British Military fuel holders.

I am looking forward to your accounts and images of your holiday with your family.
