a little sparse on specifics but could be promising, Not sure a 2-ton vehicle is the best base for an electric car, unless they need the weight carrying capacity for a huge bank of batteries.

Lots of people seem to be suggesting these modifications, but as you say probably not the best vehicle. What we need is a new purpose build electric chassis.
I would be interested to see detailed specification. A 'back-of-envelope' calculation says the batteries alone will weigh in the order of 600kg and that is using the best available Lithium cells. Add the motors and control gear (at least another 150kg) it will be a heavy vehicle. If they want to keep aircon, it will need either a bigger battery or it will sacrifice range.

That's what I was thinking. Aiming at the luxury car market is probably sensible as that's where the money is but that also means they have a car that is full of electric gadgets and other luxuries that will suck an enormous amount of juice (like the air-con as you say)
But also are people that spend £80k on a Range Rover that bothered about the environment to want to spend another £40k on getting an electric version? I'd rather give the money to overfinch and do some carbon-saving stuff elsewhere!

Probably not really, but they might be made to care in a couple of ways ...
Uncle Ken's plans might be shelved for now, but elsewhere in the world it's quite possible that you'll no longer be able to take 4-litre cars into cities. Some possible demand for non-combustion luxury cars there.
And there's the image thing ... the CEO of Greenpeace Ltd is doomed to ride around on a bike but there are others who might prefer to be seen in 'enviro-friendly' vehicles that still befit their wished-for status. Government ministers even
cheers, Ross K
