Hi there, just wondering if anybody out there is running a diesel fourtrak on vegetable oil? (2.8TDX) and if so what modifications were required?
Thanks, am new to the world of fourtraks and am trying to reduce running costs!

I know a guy who runs his Fourtrak on old chip SPAM with no obvious problems, apart from carrying a stock of fuel filters around
If there ever was an engine that was so basic and fuss free as to run on anything, then the Dai 2.8 is it
What I will say is this; don't cut corners on refining the fuel, get some proper advice on filtration and source an inline fuel heater. I think the best systems have a small tank for diesel to start the engine, and then change it over when up to temprature and get a heat exchanger to preheat the fuel...

Have a look at my posts in the Alternative fuels forum tells you all you need to know.
The fourtrak 2.8 is a "safe" engine for veg, IE it has a Nippon pump and Indirect Injection.
However mine wouldn't start on more than 50% Veg.....
So I twin tanked it, and can run it on 100% veg oil.

If your ca can run SVO then IMO there is no point in making Bio Diesel as it will require more work, and higher costs as well as higher impact to the environment.

I agree entirely.
If the environment is a factor which motivates you then stick with SVO.
Out of interest: the first diesel engine, built in 1897, ran on peanut oil.

Really no point in creating all that extra work to make biodiesel.
Just run the 2.8 on vegie oil, once the engine has warmed up.
In the summer, you may well find, it will start and run very happily on straite vegetable oil.
Biodiesel, is messy, and it's not like you are feeding one of BMW's finest 535d , is it now.
Your Dia will love the stuff, and you will wonder why you didn't do it ages ago.
Getting all the bits out of the waste oil is paramount.
if anything causes more trouble, then it is dirty oil.
Look out on fleabay for 20 inch sediment filters, they are the best you can get, and just slip a 5 micron filter cartridge in it, get a small circulating pump, and thats all you need.
20 inch sediment filters can be found on fleabay for £50.00, with a new cartridge.
Worth every penny, as the cartridges are just £3 and last 12 months or more.
