The rubber gaitor/sleeve at the bottom of the stick stops oil getting out and crap geeting in . There is usualy a steel clip/ring to keep it secure (placed where red arrow points) but at a pinch a cable tie or some locking wire will suffice . It can be a

When the sleeve is off this is what you should see . The metal retaining clip/ring should not have any movement and should be firmly in place . To remove push it down and turn counter clockwise . Sometimes they can be very stiff so I use a flat bladed scr

The G/stick sits on a rubber spacer/bush that is prone to failing and this will result in a sloppy stick and/or difficulty in selecting drive . It is easily removed with a finger or screwdriver and cheap to replace I believe poly replacements are availa

Refitting

Check the selector rods to ensure they are in the right position . If the gaps are out of line (see pic) then use your trusty screwdriver again and bring them into alignment . Will take a good shove but it will go .

If the box was in Neutral as it should be the selector rods should be like this

Refitting is pretty straight forward too . G/stick followed by..........

Scoobystu:

Very well done! One of the best I have seen! If it's all right with everyone, I would like to post a link to it at Ack's FAQ.

Cordially,

Stu, I'm starting to get a bit worried about you.................

Started with the water pump.
OK, I like to clean everything up before replacing it - not as shiny clean as yours admittedly but any way.......

Then the engine and gear box.
Looks nice, I admit, but a bit o.t.t. I thought..............

Now the t-box.
Bordering on obsessional bling.............

And then the gloves.
I also use gloves (from time to time - ready supply from the ward) but YOURS ARE STILL CLEAN!!!
Either you have an allergy to oil, a very strict SWMBO, or you work/live in a sterile oxygen tent!

P.S. I can hook you up with Mr. Dover, he sells sterile surgical gloves and will do a fellow Differ a good price.

Simon 'grease monkey' Owen.
