A lot of time and effort went in to designing the rear section.. I wanted it to give me more storage, be able to carry the spare tyre and give me protection in the event of a roll...

I always wanted a rear winch.. but opted to keep fuel tank under the body so winch had to stick out the back

Alfa 156 were fitted to the rear bumper.. but these only lasted one outing, and winch stuck out to far so both were moved later.

The Petroworks fuel tank imported from the States holds 50% more fuel that the standard tank, but fits in same space was originally under the truck in the stock location, but this too was later moved.

Four wheel arches were custom made. I always intended these to be strong enough for tree rubbing and 'jackable'/

The wheel arches were constructed from 20mm box, 3/4 CDS and 1.2mm sheet steel. They have since been modded to bolt to frobt and rear bumpers and rock sliders for added strength.

Front and rear axles were stripped, cleaned, strengthened, all new bearings and seals fitted. ARB installed in each axle, Calmini shafts installed in both, DGtuning CVs fitted.

Rob Storr's high steer kit was fitted on front axle.

Rear axle was fitted with Spidertrax rear disc conversion.

For as long as I can remember Ive wanted Mach 5 rims..

After contacting MJLee Engineering and then waiting three months I had them..

They were then fitted with 31x10.5x15 Fedima Trial Aides and flush fit air valves. These rims are soon to be fitted with some custom beadlocks.

A VW 1900 Turbo Diesel was fitted using the 'Off Road Armoury' adapter plate and fly wheel.

I chose to paint the engine bay and engine for two reasons, one it makes it easier to spot leaks from oil and coolant.. and secondly because I figured Ive spent so much time and effort on everything else, why just throw it in...

This is my old 1Y non turbo engine

Ive always liked how some of the 'Max Power' type cars have the interior all one colour.. So for a long time Id decided to re-trim the interior.. Mainly because it hadnt been done on a 4x4 in this country..

It took me just over 100 hours to re-trim the interior.

Two Cobra Clubman buckets were stripped, more foam added, heated seat elements added then re-trimed in comercial grade leatherette.

The sun visors were trimed, the roof has been trimed. The bulk head behind the seats has been trimed. An arm rest was fabricated, then trimed.

Like it or hate it, I hope you will appreciate the amount of work that has gone into it.

Once finally finished.. TX looked like this.

But truth be known.. There were a lot of things that just weren't working for me..

So the front winch ( stuck out to far ) got chopped off, the rear winch ( stuck out to far ) got chopped off, the flashing lights on the roof ( why ? )and the roof lights had to go..

External cage was the order of the day.. plus I wanted a stinger.. and fuel tank got moved to inside the truck to allow the rear winch to be mounted under the truck..

TX Phase two looked a bit like this..

Finally got around to starting the rear rad ducting..

Wanted something that would give protection in a roll and protection from branches etc..

3mm and 6mm sheet steel makes up the duct..

Radiator is off a Land Rover Defender Diesel...

Painted in pink primer for now..

Also finally started adding the web detail to the front of the cage..

In the installation of both my 1Y ( non turbo ) and my AAZ ( turbo ) VW Diesel engines I have done the following:

Modified the Samurai engine mounts ( the VW ones can rip if rolled )

Imported a Mitsubishi starter motor from the States

Removed the engine thermostat

Removed the Samuari heater valve to heater matrix

Fitted a Davies Craig electric water pump and removed stock impeller

If you have any questions concerning my VW conversion please PM me or E mail me on the above address.

NB I do not have ANY experience with any other type of diesel conversion.

New projects on the go..

New Mk2 bonnet for T-X.. was never really happy with the first bonnet.. so this new bonnet is gonna be something different.. nothing technically amazing.. but a fair few hour of work to build it and finish it..

Also now started on the first stage of the new dash..

Started the car PC install and have now fitted the 8" touch screen monitor.. Just about to start the new arm rest with PC bits in.. and have got another Samurai dash that will be used as the dnor for the custom dash build later in the year.. Cool

The Off Road Armoury custom fly wheel has now been re-machined to accept a Vitara 1600 16v clutch and cover. The clutch cover also had to be machined to fit into the bell housing..

The result now is that even under hard acceleration or full boost the clutch no longer slips Cool
