|
|
|
Having just changed my tyres for a set of 235 85 BFGs (thought i may as well go for the best! Good deal from sliverlin 4x4 £495 inc postage for 4 tyres on steel rims)i just want to check on a couple of things!
What pressure should i be running them at? they came from the supplier at about 27psi but ive upped it to 34 rear 30 front, that sound about right?
Also, am i likely to have seen much of a mpg loss as compared to my old 750s (Both tyre on 16 in rims)
I am going to try to do an mpg test but my fuel guage leaves a little to be desired!!
Cheers guys!
Hugh

I would go up to 34 psi in the front and 38 psi in the rear and see how it goes.As for fuel consumption i can't see the bigger tyres making that much difference.

not dissagreeing with the knowledge of Mr Tyre - but you might find 34/38 a little high if your 90 is unladen.
BFG's have quite a tough and strong sidewall in the first place and 34/38 might make the truck feel a bit skittish on poor road surfaces at speed - especially when cornering. Steering can feel a little light too.
I used to run my 90csw unladen with these at 30 front and 34 rear for best mpg and even then it felt a little bouncy. 28f and 30r was the most comfortable pressure, but i lost a couple of mpg over a long motorway journey.

BFG themselves say 'handbook pressure 6 psi front and rear' so a 90 running 750's in theory should change to 34 psi front 47 psi rear, which is way too much for an unladen/ lightly laden 90.So that is why i pitched for the pressures i did.
