Hi All
I'm new to this forum and would like to say hi to you all, I'm also going to start straight away by asking a few questions, I hope you don't mind. First of all I've liked mogs for years now and I've just started to think about maybe getting one when the time is right. I've been looking at a U1000, i like the look of these and feel that it would be the best for me. Could you tell me if it is registered as an agricultural vehicle can it be run on red diesel legally? Also i have read that a 170hp version will cruise at 45/50mph no problem, is this true? Could you tell me what the servicing costs are like? and what sorta mpg you can get from them? And also can it be driven at 16 as it is classed as an agricultural Vehicle? Also does anyone know what the dimensions are of the U1000? I currently am rebuilding a land rover 110 double cab, but i think i will probably sell it when it is done which should leave me with a bit of money. Does anyone know what i can get a U1000 for?

Thanks for any help
Dan

If it is registered as an agricultural vehicle, you will have a legal limit imposed on your top speed while on the highway. The police can enforce this and prosecute should it be exceeded, which they do more frequently these days.

One is only entiteled to use Red Diesel, in an Agricultural Registered vehicle on the highway, when that Vehicle is doing what is legaly considered agricultural work, their is guidance for this. HM Customs & Excise can and will prosecute any one they discover using it illegally. HM Customs & Excise have enormous powers. They often do road side checks together with other agencies such as police and social services. They can tell if it is red diesel, not only by the colour, but there are also chemical markers in it, so HM C are difficult to fool. They can confiscate your vehicle. They can prosecute you. They can after discovering your fraud enter any of your properties and test all other vehicles that are on those premises and test them. They can then if they wish ask you to proove that you used legal taxed diesel for the total mileage of any vehicle. They then can recover what ever tax that they consider has not been payed, for the life of all those vehicles and confiscate them also. The onus is on you to proove that you have payed Tax, on all calculated fuel use. The onus is not on them to prove otherwise which is almost unique in British Law.

The fines by them selves can be massive but all the other stuff including prosecution for fraud, loosing multiple vehicles, Paying back Tax on multiple vehicles and further investigations into your businesses can make any savings that you might have made by using inappropriate fuel pale significantly.

Their are other classes of vehicle that also are legaly allowed to use Red diesel and include Tarmac Spraying Lorries and I think that some cement mixing lorries are also permitted. It is all on the various Government Web Sites
