so ive been running musso on bio diesel from a local supplier for quite a long time with out any problems.

but i have just bought a 2.8 swb frontera and was wondering if anyone knows if these things will run ok on the bio diesel without the need of modifications or an engine rebuild down the line?

I ran my old 2.8 on Bio (B100 spec) for 6 months or so without problems. Needed a pre-heater for the bio in winter tho as it got a bit too thick.

Other than that, quieter pump and seemed to pull better, but needed the filters changing quickly for the first couple of hundred miles.

hi
i work for a generator company who supply power for outdoor events, festivals ect.. we run all our generator sets on bio diesel, we get a particularly good variety of fuel but i think it differs very little from supplier to supplier. but i put some bio diesel in my rangy(2.8td isuzu inside) and it worked fine, warm, however cold i made my sticky injector problem far worse, due to the viscosity i assume. but my mate has a defender that he always runs on bio, think its a 200tdi and he swears by it! i have put neat veg oil with 10% normal diesel, in the crappy ford 1.8d, and the td mondeo and it worked fine despite having a lucas pump( apparently the bosch pump works better with neat veg oil, down to the fact that the..rail in the pump has groves in it so the Veg oil can lubricate it properly, whereas the lucas does not) and like someone said further up "quieter" think that is due to the fact that the engine is slightly advanced, same with red not that i have or ever will run red on the road Embarassed , it advances the timing i have been told which seems to make sense as i use more red per mile than normal white.
on a tangent, i thought that the diesel engine was designed to run on veg oil when fritz diesel(or whoever) invented it years ago( my facts are a little rotten) or at least a heavy oil of a certain viscosity, i am sure their is some rule about that Confused
back to the point, we run bio oil in 100kva set for days on the trot and we have little problems, filter changes are essential more regular than normal, and when you Start running bio, change the filters like every 100 or so miles, as i know that something in bio cleans out stuff in your system, and it also breaks down certain rubber pipes. our bowser has a large capacity 12v transfer pump ant the black hose leaves black crap on your hands, so if its doing that on the outside must also be on inside, so filters filters filters! also when cold it is thick as matey rightly said, so fuel pre heater is well worth it.
hope my help helps, if i am incorrect in any thing please tell me as this is all i know about bio diesel.
cheers jeff
