Hi All
Can anybody tell me -
1. Can you get 15" steel wheels for a G wagon(and are they easy to come by)?
2. Are the axles pretty strong - (any known weaknesses?)
3.Where the diffs are located i.e central or to the N/S O/S front and rear.
4.The Diff Ratio
5. How heavy are they compared to a suzuki SJ type axle. Approximately.
6.Approx width of said axles.
7. Do they run leaves or coils.
Assume the vehicle is about 1989-1991 vintage. Old shape.

Im considering fitting a set of axles to a vitara from a scrap G-wagen but wanted to know the pros and cons before getting carried away.
Any opinions/comments on this appreciated!...
Thanks

cant think of anything better to fit.

1. Coil sprung
2. Rear axle has diff centre mounted (comes with hydraulic diff lock)
3. Front axle has off set diff. to the right (again, hydraulic diff lock)
4. Strong ? yes very, unless your sticking 300BHP then front CV's might give up with abuse
5. dont forget to use the Transfer case to as these are very strong, can cope with 300BHP plus, infact never heard of one giving up

Its a conversion well worth it, bound to be lots of fabrication. but a good result at the end, donwside is the axles are quite heavy, but thats why there strong !!!!!!.

most came with 15" rims but only 5 j, BT fabrications are making a mach 5 copy with beadlocks soon. If you have the money to spares. Do believe Steve lloyd has fitted g wagen axles to a vitara. Width is very close to a 90 but diff ratios I aint clued up on, athough it is written on the axles near the diff on a plate. Does depend on what engine it has to determine diff ratios.

Thanks for that, much appreciated - having just seen the size and weight of them I'm gonna hold fire for the moment and live axle it with a SJ axle -
Then once that's all sorted I can look into swapping the axles at some point - along with the g-wagon engine and box...
Hang on wouldn't it be easier to get a g-wagen...!
Sounds like they are pretty invincible though and I likes the sound of that...

A std swb G wagen weights 2200KGS, the chassis are heavy, very heavy, and when you start cutting the body about you will understand how when I rolled mine 3 times down a hill, and still managed to drive it to france 4 weeks later for an event you will understand why they are so strong and heavy, remeber this was a std swb G wagen with no roll bar.

So get a g wagen and cut it about to lose weight, Or, use the zuk for its light weight, and fit the TC and axles.

15" Sprinter van rims fit.

G's ARE invincible!

You only need a 2" spring lift and you can throw 34" Simex on one....

But they are slow, Heavy and Thirsty!

the biggest problem you will find is the t case if you use it the input and front output are really close together i had this setup on a Sammy chassis and the prop angles where crazy and that had a 94in wheel base but that said it would be well worth while my axles are the 5.3 to 1 r/p and have locker front and rear these are early 6 bolt flanges with the high pinion counter rotating front diff if you want any pics or sizes let me know regards Dave

come on dan ! G wagen axles are great, just dont stick 300bhp under the bonnet, and sprinters wheel do fit. The 463 series any way as the off set is the same.

Apart form the poor rear hub seals, weak c/vs and the small pcd they're ok. The front diff rotates backwards on 460's as well.

I've broken c/v's with the om617, with the 250 horse engine i used to run they'd grenade for fun, but it all comes down to how you use the doesn't it Laughing

I've tried sprinter rims and they catch the front callipers on a 460.

But Is there a company out there that offers the same PCD as the 460 PCD, that I can lay my grubby mits on, as a three wheeled chaise is not much fun? OR is it just easier to make a spacer to adapt to land rover stud pattens.

Hi folk`s, dont know if any of you have seen but i am just starting a build my self with G wagon axles under an Suzuki X-90, it mite help a few out who are thinking of this, i havent decided how i am going to mount them yet but will be coiling them.
I am also using the T box and have a100" wheel base, once i have found some front disk`s and calipers i can start to fit then under.
I have been told that these axles are really strong, good enough for 40" tyres, i will be running 35`s with a 2.9 V6, only 160hp and 162lb torque so i will be in the safe zone i hope then.

wolly Very Happy

cvs are are problem when sticking 300BHP in there , but ashcroft (well the company in the states that make for ashcroft) are doing pukker CVs for both 460 and 463 g wagens now. Tony baskill and a guy in portugal have been given some to test and abuse. So far they have passed with flying colours.

there are a selection of wheels for g's here www.orc.de, or just get wheel spacers made so you can fit landy wheels.

Sadly you've been miss-informed.

Unless the front c/v's are as new, your 35's will see them off in no time.

Any ideas if, when and who will be retailing them?

no one in the Uk, you need to go direct to RCV performance in the states.

http://rcvperformance.com/store//catalog/produc...hp?products_id=30

soon to be making 463 ones too
