PostPosted: Tue Jan 08, 2008 4:49 pm    Post subject: National Lane Awareness Day Reply with quote

I posted this on the mud club site a few weeks ago to gauge opinion, seems like there is some interest so I thought it would be of some benefit on here.

It should be stated from the start that this is not an initiative of any group or organisation, it's an idea I came up with after reading, chatting and debating with others. It really came about because I'd had enough of seeing people in the bomb hole on the wayfarer but realised that there's more than one problem area. This is for all users to have their say and play a part in self regulating their own rights of way.

Anyway, let me know what you think.............

A national lane awareness day;

Given the number of reports on here and other sites/forum regarding the number of illegal use of rights of way, there would be a case for users joining together regardless of marque or club/organisational allegiance.

I'd like to propose a meeting of all of the various clubs, groups, individuals and organisations to determine a strategy in order to combat those who are threatening our future use of those rights of way we use and sometimes maintain. That strategy might include a series of Lane Awareness Days where those who use the various RoW, are out in force in as many areas as possible.

From conversations with the Police, it seems that their backing would be forthcoming for such an event (s) and it would be officially endorsed.

Our emphasis would be two fold.
1 educate those who go where they shouldn't
2 report those who persistently cause damage and make trespass, criteria here would be emphasis on 'refuse to adhere to advice'

We are not here to do the police's job, however, if we want to see RoW kept open, then some form of action is necessary. Local authorities don't have the resources, we do.
If we don't take responsibility for our rights of way, then those who don't have our interests at heart, will.

This is just an idea, it's a big one though with high aims.

Anyone else want to jump in with some thoughts............... please do

Regards

No thoughts as such right now as I'm up to my armpits in work.

But I'd like to take part or be involved in some way. Bear me in mind?

Hi Dave

I've sort of been out of it for a good while now but it would be nice to chip back in.

Thats an excellent point, what people living outside Wales don't understand is after 10 years or so we have different guidelines laws health service etc.

All local councils have the right to close any public highway if its proved its been used for illegal activities, start reporting people like some have and all that happens is the crime rate or stats go up.

Then at local council meeting the plods present a "case" backed up by stats and suggest close and gate the lane, so by reporting it you can make the situation worse

But if nothing is done the lanes will continue to be destroyed and closed anyway. The damage is there to be seen and trying to ignore it won't help.

If we can educate those who will listen and stop the muppets that won't then maybe there's a chance of keeping them open, IMHO

Hi Fi or is it Colin?

One small group can't do everything however getting different people and different groups with an interest in laning without causing damage to unite to clamp down on the illegal muppets can have an impact.

Thats the whole point of the Lane Awareness Day, not just one group but to bring as many groups together and individuals together to help save the lanes.

Any positive comments would be most welcome, ideas to move this forward are whats needed, if you dont like it you dont have to get involved.

I sincerely hope we can make an enthusiastic approach to the problem facing all our Green Lanes.

OK agree with that, but just how many and who have you contacted ?

This lane awareness day been going round for a good 2 weeks now, have you contacted all those on the hundred or some forums who go laning ?.

Then theres the local clubs have you contacted them ?.

Finally the dozzen or so commercial outfits, often seen each weekend, which everyone seems to moan about, there out a lot and in there interest to keep the lanes open have you contacted them.

I just mention this as often lurk on other forums, I've seen the odd post on some but most nothing, even the national big ones or the board leaders nothing.

Unless every 4x4 group unites this lane awareness day will fail.
Seems that crag are the only user group pushing for this. Unless I`m mistaken ?

Any chance you could sit back and watch without being sarcastic Confused

Schraunchy is at least doing some thing positive, if it doesn't work well at least he tried. Why knock the guy.

If it does not suit you or your beloved Crying or Very sad , feel free to do some thing else, preferably some thing with a happy disposition Laughing

Where in my comments above am I "knocking the guy"

I am saying as I think but that gets me nowhere.

The programme trying to be set up here is a big one and it has plenty of positives to it but it also has plenty of negatives but nobody can mention the negatives without it being taken personnally when its not meant that way.

All ideas have fors and againsts and I personnally think both avenues should be explored for it to work to its best but on certain sites these againsts (or negatives ) are not allowed and are frowned upon and whoever is responsible for posting them gets a slap on the wrist at least.

So my comments above are not sarcastic just truthful.

I wish you sucsess as its the few who spoil things for others in the illegal activities , in a few years from now this post thread may HAUNT us all , J P .

We can get it together but everyone needs to pull the same direction and give some positive input Wink

Once we get dates sorted I think things will build.

two people who disagree have posted their opinions and are getting flamed?Bit harsh.
Well done to anyone who wants to volunteer for the day, good to see people willing to take positive action. But for those people to have a go at someone with a different idea who dont make the problem worse is plain ridiculous
