I have understood that the 2.7L diesel in T2 is very reliable, but how is the 3.0L engine? Does it have a timing chain, belt or gears like the 2.7L?
Is it the same one that is used in Patrols?
I'm fairly certain that it is a good and reliable engine, but I'd still like to know what others think about it.

As far as I know the 3L engine in the Terrano is from the Patrol & is reliable. I'm sure the Patrol boys will be able to give you the information your after

My understanding of the 3.0 is that it has a combination of belt & gears. Not aware of any reliability issues when used in the T2, but it isn't that common an engine in the Terrano really. The 2.7 is much commoner, and was still an option up to end of production.
