Anyone know if there is much difference between the offset on a basic 16" modular (the ones with the round cut outs) and the original plain steel disco rim ?

The offset is measured from the centre of the wheel to the mounting surface, so its not so easy to compare wheels of different widths.

I think the Disco steel wheel is 5.5" wide (or am I confusing it with my original Defender wheels?), but I can't find a reference to the offset - I'll keep looking. Sometimes it is stamped on the wheel, anyone care to have a look?

I have a set of 7x16 Modulars supplied by Craddocks and they have an offset of +8mm and fit the Defender perfectly.

Most aftermarket wheels come with the same offset so that one width and offset of wheel fits all. Discovery 1 steel and alloy wheels have the same offset (33mm). Discovery 1 wheels are 7 inches wide.

I just wondered as I have 245/75 Goodyear Mt's with silver modulars on my disco and the rear drivers side keeps catching on the rear of the arch when offroad. It's had a 1.5" lift and a "Camel cut" on the arches. I can not remember how much I took off but its back to the wing mount. The passenger side never catches and its just the last 1/4" of the tread blocks that are getting damaged. I wondered if Disco rims would pull the wheel in closer and prevent it happening. Does seem to be a bit better since I changed the a frame ball joint.

Silver modulars have a very small amount (less than 10mm) of positive offset.
